Summoner's Week: Quix the Devious
Introduction
The main idea of Zombie Dragon is to have multiple monsters with Resurrect ability and one main tank with Taunt. That monster will take all the damage and the other monsters will support, like a typical front to back team.
My tank of choice is Agor Longtail due to his cheaper budget and now, Quix the Devious for the same reason.
Quix the Devious is a legendary summoner and like the others, he is strong in my opinion. His abilities are fairly decent and can be really strong in Going the Distance rule of combat.
-1 Speed: [Stat Modifier] [Negative Status] All opponent monsters has their Speed reduced by 1, with a minimum of 1. Monsters with 1 Speed before the effect applies are unaffected.
-1 Range: [Stat Modifier] [Negative Status] All opponent monsters has their range damage reduced by 1, with a minimum of 1. Monsters with 1 range damage before the effect applies are unaffected.
Pros
- One Build for Two Splinters. The main requirement for this build is Resurrect ability and the main two options for that in Modern Format is either River Heliondale or Adelade Brightwing.
- Almost Unlosable if Core is Deployed. This build is a bit technicaly to break through. The opponent needs to kill Agor Longtail thrice to break through and get access to your back row. Otherwise, they would eat the damage as you Heal, Repair and Resurrect your way to victory.
- Strong Summoner Even if opponents doesn't have range damage, their speed is still affected so this summoner will always have an impact in the game.
Cons
- Contradicting Compatible Rule of Combat.Fire & Regret is bad for Quix the Devious but good since the build is unafected since the monsters you use for the build are melee and magic damage.
- Expensive to RentMost of the core are legendary monsters and legendary monsters gets expensive the higher levels you rent out.
- Requires Decent Mana Cap to Run.Since this build requires 33 mana to use, you will most likely fail if the mana on the field is less than 33.
Fire & Regret |
All monsters on the board gains the Return Fire ability that inflicts half the damage to monster with range damage attacking this monster: Since the build requires mostly melee and magic damage for the monsters, the build is unaffected.
Equal Opportunity |
All monsters on the board gains the Opportunity ability that changes the targetting mechanics to "Opponent's Monster with the least health.": With Equal Opportunity, you can add monsters like Disintegrator that lowers melee damage and allow him to attack. This normally is not possible with any rule of combat.
Fab Four |
Up to four monsters can be used by each player in this battle. : The main core only needs 4 monsters. As long as you have the core build, the other supports does not matter. |
Healed Out |
All healing effects and abilities are disabled during this battle.: The build is stronger with the Heal and Tank Heal ability so this affects your build. However, even without restoration, this build can still work. |
|
Unprotected |
All armor and effects that involve armor are disabled during this battle: The build uses armor as the main defense since if the monster gets resurrected, it gets 1 health and full armor. Without the armor, the build is dead. |
|
Ferocity |
All monsters do double damage to opponent's monster that has Taunt ability: Since the build requires mostly melee and magic damage for the monsters, the build is unaffected. |
Chaos Dragon |
The Blind and and slow abilities are very strong combinations but the Scattershot and Blast ability can also take down the back row as you defend the front.
Legionnaire Alvar |
He is like a stronger version of Disintegrator. The reduced Melee and Range is strong combination for this build's defenses.
Torrent Fiend |
Not only he has 0 mana cost to use, he also gets Headwinds. With Quix the Devious, the reduced 2 range is strong against Range-focused teams. |
Have Agor Longtail take in all the damage and block with his armor and Void Armor ability. Once this monster dies, he will then be resurrected with max armor as his health gets restored by his Heal and other's Tank Heal ability.
Lineup
Quix the Devious
2nd to the cheapest but better complementing abilities with Agor Longtail.
Agor Longtail
Main Tank. Supported by multiple restorations and resurrection abilities. The opponent needs to kill Agor Longtail at least 3 times for opponent to have access to the back row to win.
Oshuur Constantia
Placed in 2nd position because of Reflection Shield to protect team against Blast ability. Has Resurrect and Tank Heal unlocked at level 3.
River Heliondale
I use him for the Resurrect ability and can be exchanged with Adelade Brightwing depending on the available element. He has Resurrect and Inspire abilities.
Doctor Blight
This is an optional monster. He has Poison and Affliction abilities that can be helpful to speed up the game.
Merdaali Guardian
Has all you need to support Taunt monster. Has Tank Heal and Repair and Strengthen for the increased health. A 14 Health Agor Longtail restores 4 health from Heals and Tank Heals while a 15 Health Agor Longtail restores 5 health.
Naga Assassin
I had extra 2 mana so I added him but he isn't important to the build.
The battle was very one sided and the opponent was not even able to make this close.
This build is very strong and very flexible. You can use Adelade Brightwing instead of River Heliondale if Water element is not available.
I also found out that Commander Goff from Life Splinter also has Resurrect at level 4 but currently, there's no level 4 available yet for rental so I was not able to rent and try him with the team.
Total cost of rentals is 341.516 DEC for 2 days and this is the core part only which makes it one of the most expensive builds I ever made.
