Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge - Going the Distance 1 - Modern Champion Ranked

Hello everyone! This is my first entry for this week's Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge with the Going the Distance rule set!

Going the Distance is a rule set that only allows ranged monsters to be played. In my opinion, it is one of the worst rule sets available, only rivaled by Shades of Gray. It's a very restrictive rule set. It often creates games where there's not much choice and some players might even be forced to use some starter or under-leveled cards. This is true, especially when paired with other very restrictive rule sets. As for strategies, Return Fire, Headwinds, and Close Range are good ones to have. It can also be nice to use cards that have both ranged attack and another type of attack. Quix the Devious and Ilthain are pretty good summoners for this. Conquerer Jacek and Astral Entity also have good abilities for this rule set and those splinters have pretty good cards in the Riftwatchers set: Ash Mirage and Queen of Crows. Venari Marksrat is another card I use often in this.

Let's take a look at a game with this rule set. I found an interesting battle in Modern Champion Ranked: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_b04a7140dee71e969b089e0452a477a3

This game also has Close Range and Little League rule sets. On the one hand, Close Range is a great pairing with Going the Distance. On the other hand, Little League is another very restrictive rule set. Both players went with Quix the Devious. A very easy choice with Little League and the splinters available. The top player went with Blackmoor Trickster, Great Porcupine, Naga Assassin, Chaos Lackey, Drybone Bowdog, and Iza the Fanged. The bottom player opted for Venari Marksrat, Naga Assassin, Fungus Flinger, Iza the Fanged, Drybone Bowdog, and Acid Shooter. That's a lot of cards from Rebellion, especially in the top player's team. These are not that good most of the time but they grant wins in these types of games. It shows that we're seeing a Champion ranked game.

Venari Marksrat was the first monster to die. That's not bad for the bottom player, especially because Naga Assassin buffed can dodge a few more attacks to trigger the Backfire. Next, it was the top player's Iza to go. Soon after, the bottom player lost Naga Assasin without getting a single miss. They were able to take out the opposing Naga with a lucky Scattershot, though. Fungus Fliger got taken out but so did the Porcupine with a poison hit from Acid Shooter. Iza was getting pretty big and took out Blackmoor Trickster. Drybone Bowdog took out his own kind on the top, and there was only one monster left. It didn't take long for the bottom player to take the win.
