I'm not sure when these downvotes started being issued, but HIVE is up almost 100% since a low 7 weeks ago.

They started in July 2021.

The 15th June actually, 52 in total. HIVE was 36c on the 15th, I'm not sure how downvotes to this account are affecting our investment.

Short term market movements are irrelevant.

The long term value of a network, including a blockchain, is based its number of active users.

98% of Hive transactions and active users are Splinterlands players.

The Hive blogging platform does not have enough users to be pushing people away.

Splinterlands has already moved from the Steem blockchain to the Hive blockchain and could move again.

If you know anything about the ideological views of the Splinterlands founders you will know that they are not big on censorship or suppression of alternative views.

This says it all really. Hive is moving on from a blogging platform - it's not content, upvoted or downvoted, that will spotlight the blockchain.

Splinterlands has already moved from the Steem blockchain to the Hive blockchain and could move again.

Could, but unlikely as Hive is a good match for this game. The move from Steem was a reluctant one if I remember correctly.

If you know anything about the ideological views of the Splinterlands founders you will know that they are not big on censorship or suppression of alternative views.

I've met them both, although the topic was neither content or downvotes.

While we are all obviously very happy about Splinterlands success and the wealth it has brought, it is important to not get carried away or think that the blogging aspect of Hive is not an important, core part of the ecosystem.

Hive is a suitable chain for Splinterlands, but so are other chains based on it.

Splinterlands could get so big it may need to run forks of Hive just to cope with the growth. The SPS token provides ways to create new decentralised chains with token ownership based on SPS holdings.

Hive needs to continue to attract new users to its core, blogging function and show growth in this area to survive long term. Otherwise it will become completely dependent on Splinterlands and thus vulnerable.

I see dangerous hubris in the comments about how well the Hive price is doing and why should we care about people leaving Hive because their posts have been downvoted to zero because a whale doesn't like them.

Hive needs to convert its new Splinterlands sourced users to regular bloggers, not scare people away.

This is what is in the long term interests of everyone with a significant Hive stake.
