How Merits increase the Value of Reward Cards

Since the starting of this season, it's is now possible to earn Merits from daily and seasonal rewards. I believe this was a very good move by the Splinterlands Team. By doing that, they actually give more value to the Reward Cards.

Check out the video to understand why I believe this is so...

Hmm I am actually quite disappointed that they are giving out Merits from chests. I thought 2 DEC from a Silver chest was bad enough, now I am getting 2 Merits from a Silver chest.

If we assume 2000 Merits is equal to 80 DEC (1 Rare 4 Common cards in a Gladius Pack), 2 Merits is equivalent to 0.08 DEC. Which is quite depressing, considering 1 DEC is less than USD 0.01.

I think the effect is shown in the number of battles, which has fallen from 5 million a day to 2 million a day. Seems like more players are choosing to sit back and rent out their cards instead of playing for these kind of rewards.

Yep, agreed. There are so many players complaining about the rewards and sudden drop in Focus/Reward points in each league after new Wild/Modern Format.

2 days renting also a burden on players, I don't understand why would someone pay for the cards for 2 days while the focus lasts for 1 day.

Rewards cards are cheaper by the dozen in the market, they are just not making any difference in the gameplay.

New players are very furious about the starter cards, they regret spending $10 on Spell Book.

Bots are again on the rise with new tactics, not much left for a real player.

Yeah a lot of valid points there. Agree with them. Thanks for sharing.

The Merits doesn't solve the bot problem if that was the intention. The bots will still burn the Gladius cards once they get hold of them.

Bots are very intelligent and their AI beats the game ecosystem. So bad for human players indeed.
Captcha can solve this problem but them each battle will take a lot of time or maybe only verified account to participate in the game.

I definitely didn't get why rentals went to 2 days. That makes not much sense to me. The best way to escape bot town is to play in higher leagues with more owned cards I believe.

I got an epic gold foil from Gladius packs which is worth 10K DEC. Of course this is the exception but it shows that the value of Merit might be a bit more than you calcuated. In my opinion the wild/modern format didn't bring much advantages to the game. It simply split the rewards which is definitely not a nice thing.

Reducing the number of cards rewarded may help bring up prices in the rewards cards.
Merits gives value to individual accounts and reduces the amount of value that can be pulled by bots.

Well the bots can still burn the cards but I think that overall reward cards will be distributed less quickly and therefore there might be more demand for them.

While it may reduce the excess supply hitting the market, it doesn't really solve the huge max supply of the card. So I don't think it will have that much of an effect on prices.

When you look at the ratio print/cards of reward card, you notice that this ratio gets bigger over time. For powerful cards it will go to about 8. Meaning that for every 8 cards printed, there will be 1 in circulation. This ratio lower for new cards, which is logical. There are less cards and less combined ones. It doesn't solve the max supply issue which is definitely too big for certain reward cards but I believe that by giving out cards at a slower speed, the number of cards in circulation is will be lower which has an effect on the price. In the long run, once the card is fully printed, the price will be set by the quality of the card rather than by its supply. So I believe that the merits will contribute to keep the value of cards higher while still in print... Sorry that was a bit long lol

Yes merits allow you to buy gladius packs. You need 2000 to buy one pack.

i need to setup my card rentals on a new account as they cards keep getting marked as played even though i cant play 3 of the same card.

Putting the rental cards in a separate account makes a lot of sense. It's sometimes pretty difficult to keep track of what cards are for rent.

Yes, you can even do it with an account that doesn't have the summoners spellbook I believe.
