Weekly Battle Challenge Featuring Time Mage
Hello Splinterlands Community!
Hope everyone is doing well.
It is this time of the week when we post about - SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge and the card for the week is TIME MAGE.
ABOUT THE CARD :
So, before we move onto some battle and strategy with the card, let's take a look at the card.
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: LIFE
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: SLOW RUST
Now, let's check out the stats of the card.
Time mage is a 4 mana support card from the Life splinter with 1 magic damage, 4 speed and 3 speed at level 1. Most importantly, the card comes with SLOW at all levels.
At level 5 and above, it also comes with RUST and at the highest level the card has 3 magic damage, 5 speed and 4 speed.
THE RULE SET :
- Mana Cap : 42
- Rule set :
Taking Sides: Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles. - Available Splinters :
Life
Death
Dragon
THE LINE UP :
For our summoner we went for a level 2 Quix The Devious.
The summoner will inflict -1 ranged damage and -1 speed to the opponent deck. Moreover, since we went with the dragon summoner we have the option to choose cards from another splinter and we chose the Life splinter.
At position one, we have went with a level 3 Djinn Chwala. At this level the card comes with 3 melee damage, 2 speed, 6 armor and 10 hp. It also comes with the ability of Thorns
At position two, we have went with a level 1 Carnage Titan. The beast of a card comes with 2 melee damage, 3 speed, 7 armor and 8 hp. Though the card costs 11 mana, it surely makes up for the cost with Reach and Double Strike abilities.
In the next position we have a level 3 Djinn Renova.
This I feel is one of the most undervalued cards. At level 3, the card has 3 magic damage, 3 speed and 6 hp which goes up to 7 with the Strengthen ability the card has from level 1.
At position 4, we have a level 3 gold foil Stitch Leech.
The card has 2 melee damage, 2 speed, 4 hp at level 3. Moreover, the card comes with Sneak ability.
It has great utility at the cost of 3 mana.
At the 5th position, we have our card of the week, Time Mage. For the battle we went with a level 3 version of the card that comes with 2 magic damage, 4 speed and 3 hp. The Slow ability of the card is a game changer.
In the last position we have a level 4 Venari Crystalsmith. The card has 2 ranged damage, 3 speed and 5 hp for 4 mana cost. But most importantly the card has Tank Heal ability which is always useful.
THE HIGHLIGHTS :
- Round 1:
In the first round, our team draws the first blood as the Carnage Titan takes out the Haunted Spirit from the enemy front line followed by a killing blow by Djinn Chwala to take out Silent Sha-vi and the enemy team is yet to attack thanks to the speed de buffs from the summoner Quix The Devious and our card of the week, Time Mage.
- Round 2:
Though we have the upper hand after round 1, we are about to lose our Djinn Chwala as it is left with 1 hp at the start of the round.
But before that happens, the Venari Crystalsmith heals up Djinn Chwala and it gets another kill by taking out Phantom Soldier just before Cthulhu finally takes out Djinn Chwala.
- Round 3:
In round 3, Djinn Renova eliminates Undead Priest which was the only casualty for the round as we move closer towards victory.
- Round 4:
Early in round 4, which seems to be the final round of the battle, Djinn Renova gets another kill under her name eliminating the Ancient Lich. And later in the round Stitch Leech takes out the last card from enemy deck, Cthulhu giving us that well deserved victory.

DID MY STRATEGY WORK?
Yes, it certainly did.
My strategy was to slow down the enemy team with -1 speed from our Quix The Devious and Slow from Time Mage that stacked up reducing the speed of the enemy cards by 2. The battle quickly turned our way in the very first round when the cards from enemy decks were eliminated before it was their turn.
Even though Time Mage did not deal any massive damage as it's magic damage was reduced to 1 because of the magic damage de buff from the opponent summoner, Thaddius Brood, it played pivotal role as a support card with the slow inflicted to the Slow ability giving us that well deserved victory.
Do I like the Time Mage? Why or why not?
Time mage is one of my go to cards from Life splinter and use it quite often mostly in low mana matches. I would use it even more if I had a leveled up summoner from Life splinter.
Time mage plays very well with General Sloan as it slows down the enemy team while the archers of Life splinter does serious damage to the enemy front line.
For me, this card is a must have for the life deck and it is not used as much it should be by the players.
