Good to know that you also have the interest to buy node and thanks for sharing your views here.
I have gone through some posts and even the experince of holders.
- Currently rewards are good and it seems that it may take approx 6 months to get it live
- Set up should be easy and not so complicated. It might not require so much technical knowledge however there is no official post by the splinterlands so far.
- SPS's current APR is good and approx 40% so certainly a good option to earn through sps stake.
- We can not predict the future but if things go well and splinterlands continue to work the same way then cost recovery should not take too long. In fact, early buyers are about to recover the cost. Please see this image for the current daily reward overview.

I am waiting for a better SPS price and I dont want to buy it for 20k SPS and 500 vouchers so keeping an eye on the SPS.
Please do share if you buy or planning to the node and anything info that can help me have a better understanding abut liceense. As always thanks for your nice comment.

I do think they are giving SPS regularly to License holders already even though I think no one is actually running a Node.
I see that they do want you to eventually run a Node, it seems. Or maybe they will pay one rate of SPS to license holders and a higher rate to license holders who actually run a Node.
I believe, but not positive, that you will need to rent a server to run a Node. It may be possible to run one on a computer at home but I'm pretty sure you will need a dedicated IP address which usually costs extra to get one from your Internet provider.
So my big question right now would be whether you HAVE to run a Node once the software for the nodes are released, in order to get the SPS payments at that time. It's not super hard to set up a node if its in a Docker container which they say it is, but still, a person will need some tech skills or a lot of online help to do it, I believe. Also it's important to know what your recurring costs will be to run that node, such as renting a server or paying for a dedicated IP address. We will be buying a license mainly to make a recurring monthly profit and for it to actually be profitable we need to know our costs and an estimate of our income. If we buy a license for resale value, we may be able to justify a small monthly cost if we think we can recoup these costs when we sell the license in the future.
