Battle Weekly Challenge - Mycelic Morphoid

Hello everyone and welcome to the Battle Weekly Challenge. This week the challenge is with Mycelic Morphoid, a common Earth element card without any ability at level 1. This card belongs to the Chaos Legion edition and is part of the Starter cards, so we can use it for free.

In this particular battle we are facing a level 2 Kelya Frendul summoner. Luckily, the opponent only used one card at level 2, so we are going to fight almost on equal terms since all my cards are level 1. So let's see the rules, the team and the details of the battle.

Battle Rules

This is a 18 mana battle with the "Close Range" rule where only Fire and Dragon elements are not allowed to play.

My Lineup

Although the Magi hates to admit it, Mylor is the most gifted student who has attended Summoners’ Green in many years. In his hundreds of years, the Magi has taught many students whose ambition exceeded reason and morality. When he looks into Mylor’s eyes, the Magi still sees a power-greedy child. Against the headmaster’s wishes, Mylor responded to a Gloridax invitation to Mount Mox and now summons competitively in the tournaments. His style is wild and reckless and he laughs while summoning, like it is all a big game.

Mylor Crowling: I think using Mylor Crowling as a summoner in a low mana battle is a good option as it gives the "Thorns" ability to all friendly monsters at the start of the battle. This means that when a friendly monster is hit by an enemy monster with a melee attack, it does damage back to the attacker. This is very helpful as it will allow us to kill enemy monsters faster.

Unicorn Mustang: I have chosen Unicorn Mustang as the main tank because I think it is a very complete card for 8 mana. It has a good combination of speed, attack and HP. Its high speed and HP will allow us to attack first, dodge some attacks and resist longer in battle. In addition, his Void ability will also help us to absorb the magical attacks of enemy monsters.

Wood Nymph: This card will help us to keep our tank alive thanks to its ability Tank Heal, which restores a portion of the monster in the first position's health each round. I decided to use this card to keep our tank alive as long as possible. In addition, Wood Nymph does magic damage, which is very important to avoid my opponent's heavily armored monsters.

Acid Shooter: I have decided to use this card to try to kill enemy monsters with low HP that are placed in the enemy's back line. In a low mana battle, enemy monsters in the back line are usually magic, ranged, or support. We will be able to attack these enemies thanks to the "Scattershot" ability, which hits a random enemy monster.

Mycelic Morphoid: In the last position I decided to use Mycelic Morphoid, the protagonist of this challenge! This card doesn't have any abilities at level 1, but using it in the last position allows us to defend our strongest monsters from enemy monsters with the Sneak ability. It's a perfect bait. In addition, it becomes stronger with the "Thorns" ability that our summoner Mylor Crowling gives to all friendly monsters at the start of the battle, as it does damage back to the attacker when hit with a melee attack. It fits very well in our team.

Did your strategy work?

I think my strategy worked quite well. We have been able to successfully counter the opponent's strategy and win the battle. We've cleverly used the 18 mana cap of battle to make a pretty good team against virtually any composition. So I’m proud of the result and the strategy I used.

Do you like Mycelic Morphoid?

Yes, I like Mycelic Morphoid. Personally I think it is a card that should be used wisely and in the right battles. We can benefit from its low mana cost to bait enemy monsters with the Sneak or Opportunity ability.

In addition, this card becomes more powerful at level 3 when it gets the Thorns ability, which does damage back to the attacker when hit with a melee attack.

Using low mana cards like Mycelic Morphoid is always useful as it allows us to use more monsters in the battle.
