Don't do this - Some beginners mistakes

avatar

As I am progressing in the game, I am doing a lot of mistakes, and I hope some of you - especially the newer players can learn something from my mistakes, so they don't do the same mistakes, as I did. If you follow all the rules, this Lava Launcher is skyrocketing your assets to the moon and beyond! ;-)

Some mistakes occurred in the game and some mistakes I made on Splintertalks / Peakd.

Melting down your ECR

When I first rented cards and got in silver a few days ago, I wanted those cards to make the most impact and get me as much DEC as possible. This should absolutely be your goal as well, because it is so much easier to get more DEC in higher leagues as you get in lower, especially if your MMR is around the same. Also, since higher leagues give more Loot Chests, this could help you a lot to get better and more rewards, especially reward cards. If you are in Bronze League – as I would be without rents – it is completely worth it to get to Bronze I or even Silver III / II. Yes, that is going to cost you a lot of DEC for the rents, but it’ll pay of.
But remember, time is also a valuable resource and at 25% ECR you need twice as many wins, as you would need on 50% or 4x wins, of a 100% ECR. I went below 25% often the last few days.

image.png

Yes, I got a lot of DEC together (average win rate of ~50%), but it would be more efficient if I would’ve let my ECR recover and maybe play less games. In extreme it could be wise to rent one day, play a lot until you got your DEC “goal” and then abstain for some time.
If I don’t rent myself to Silver III or at least Bronze I, I am not expecting more then a few credits. So in the end, it isn’t even worth doing the daily quest. Since it would have a higher effect, if I could get more DEC and the loot boxes, I think especially in the beginning it is worth to wait for some time to let the ECR recover.

Buying more “cheap” cards

I am not sure, which cards will rise the most and get you the best value, and this is no financial advise. But since I didn’t have that much credits and DEC I usually just going to buy what-ever card I can get my hands on. And I buy as “fast as I can”.
Waiting to accumulate some DEC to buy higher level cards could be worth it. If you are not into flipping cards, but want to buy cards to own and play with, it is worth waiting to buy higher level cards, as they are usually cheaper per BCX as especially lvl 1 cards. Sure, it is going to take some time, to have enough DEC to buy those “big boy”. But if you’re thinking of combining them after buying them, it is totally worth to wait and buy them when you got the money all together.

image.png

As you can see in the picture above, it is $17 for a level 1 card, but only $11 for a level 6 card. $760 are probably too much, but this can be found for almost every card in the game.

No time to analyze rule set

This should be pretty straightforward. Check the rule set! I repeat: Check the rule set!
This is not applicable for lower Bronze players, as far as I know, since it is always standard rule set, but as soon as you get anywhere above that, matches will have specific rules. For example earthquake is a rule set, where every monster that is not flying type, will loose a specific amount of health every round – in my case it has been 2 health each round. If you have flying, this doesn’t apply to that card.

image.png

It was not just one time, that I was taking a healer to a no heal rule set or a lot of low stamina monsters to a earthquake rule set, etc. This can be a huge disadvantage. In some cases it can still be the best choice. So there is a “divine shield” rule set, where all players get that divine shield. I got a Lorna Shine gold foil card delegated this season, which is my only Level 2 summoner as of right now. Since I rented a level 2 card of Life splinter and bought a Pelacor Conjurer gold foil, Lorna is my only choice to play these cards – and get some extra DEC. I am not sure, if that is a good strategy, but most of the time it was beneficial. If you have other options, always choose different!

No time analyzing your opponent

When you find a battle, you get can see your opponent and how they played the last five matches. It is really important to have a look at this. Is my opponent always using the same Splinter or varying a lot. Does he have monsters, that give him a huge advantage (Lama+Kron/FleshGolem, Oshannus, Yodin, etc.), which he is probably using? If you see a pattern and you know your scissors-rock-paper game, you probably have an idea, how to counter him. This can really give you a great advantage. I got this idea from @godislove777, who was doing a great twitch stream on how he got from Gold (or Bronze) to Diamond. I think it is probably still online. As already mentioned before, I would really recommend to check out his stream, as well as some of the others.

Not prioritizing and no focus

Especially early on, you don’t have a lot of HivePower and after a couple of posts / comments you run really low on it. I am not telling you, that either one is better, because a good comment can also get you a lot of upvotes, which can result in some HivePower. But as far as I can see, it is usually good posts, that get people excited and get you those upvotes. And especially if you catch the attention of a HP-whale, but I am not sure how to get their attention.
But nevertheless, if you can do good comments on trending posts, there can be a lot of people upvoting your comments, so this could also be worth it. Still, I would suggest that you focus on one thing and get better at it.

Staking on other people

I am not sure if this is a mistake, but earlier today and yesterday, I staked my SPT on @monster-curator. I heard, that this is the only way to get them counting for airdrop points. Still I don’t fully understand how airdrop points work for out-of-game assets.

image.png

But if I check my wallets, it looks like I “donated” them to monster-curator. This definitely wasn’t intended right now. I am not against donations and in real life I really do a lot of those, but right now, my focus was to maximize my HivePower and SPS airdrops. As soon as I am big enough I am sure, that I will also donate some, but it wasn’t intended. If someone knows how to contact them, and if it’s possible to get those SPT back, that would be a great advice.
So as long as someone can explain me how this whole thing works, I am probably just staking the SPT and Hive on myself.

Another tip

As suggested above, check out streamers and YouTube-Videos. You can learn a lot, get great ideas and improve your game play, and additionally can support them doing their great work! I learned a lot from streamers like @clove71, @marcuswahl, @godislove777, @bulldog, @rentaw03, @sgt-dan, @nardian and many more. If you join their streams, you can also often get giveaways, for example SPS, DEC, cards or sometimes even packs.

#Special thanks

image.png

Again the last few days, I have been blessed by many on the game (and also outside). I want to thank @clove71 for a Qid Yuff card and 15 SPS, I won on her birthday stream. The stream was amazing and there have been so many giveaways! It is an amazing idea to spread the love this way.

image.png

Also I am super thankful to @mumpulls for a Pelacor Deceiver gold foil! He did a great 3hr-long stream with @nardian and there have been so many great tips and tricks on it and also a lot of giveaways.

image.png

Great thanks to @rentaw03 for the Venari Heatsmith, to @ThisIsAfterSound for a lot of DEC.

And last but not least, thanks to all of you for curating me.

Summary

These are just a few mistakes of many, I made, and there are probably a lot to come. It is also completely fine to make mistakes, but it is better not to. I hope, that I can help you a little and would appreciate that upvote! If you want to help me, I am really looking forward to delegations or even gifts.

Cheers, ign: andy-plays

Great tips! I think I made all of those mistakes when I started playing except for accidentally staking to someone else. Yes, staking to another account does give that account your tokens. What you want to do is stake to yourself, and then delegate the tokens to someone else. This will let the other account use that token power on your behalf, but you retain ownership.

I have seen people make this mistake before. You can try asking @flauwy to return the SPT you accidentally gave him. There is a monster-curator channel on this discord where he responds: https://discord.com/invite/UFrEhhu

Thanks a lot @adulruna! I talked to him and he was very friendly. Hope that everyone else can learn from my mistake and don't repeat it.
So first: stake SPT to yourself
Then: delegate SPT to @monster-curator (or someone else)

The staking (instead of delegating) on @Monster-Curator is a common mistake. Good that you are pointing that out here.

To get the airdrop you simply power it up, if you delegate it away you will not get airdrop points for it.
