SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! PORTAL SPINNER
Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is the Portal Spinner.
About the Monster
Portal Spinner
Portal Spinner is a rare card with 2 ranged attack, 2 speed, 1 shield and 3 health, and has the Scattershot ability at level 1. It gains the Snare ability at level 5. At level 8, it gets 4 attack, which makes it a fairly powerful card. I realised that this was the only rare Chaos Legion card that I didn't own and am using the level 1 card from the starter deck.
Ruleset
Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles
Only the Fire, Earth and Life Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 46
Format: Wild
Cards & Line Up
Summoner: General Sloan - This increases the Ranged attack of my deck by 1, and allows me to use level 3 common cards and level 2 rare and epic cards as I have a level 2 version.
Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Chaos Knight | It has the Shield ability and makes for a good main tank even though its health is a little low at 4 health. |
2 | Shieldbearer | It has high health and the Taunt ability, and is used to concentrate the opponents attack on it first. It has a good amount of shield, but shields are pretty much useless in this ruleset. |
3 | Djinn Renova | It has a decent amount of Magic attack and the Strengthen ability which gives all Monsters an additional health. |
4 | Portal Spinner | It gets an additional attack from General Sloan and has the Scattershot ability, which conveniently disregards the Taunt ability if the opponent uses it. |
5 | Pelacor Arbalest | Placed in the second last position, to do double damage, and it gets an additional ranged attack from General Sloan. |
6 | Prismologist | Placed in the last position, as it has high damage and the Blast ability, which is advantageous in an Unprotected ruleset. |
Strategy
I noticed that the opponent favoured the Fire Splinter, and I thought that the Light Splinter is a better counter to it than Earth, as it's a little faster and there are no shields in this ruleset to slow down the melee and ranged attacks. The strategy was to use the Shieldbearer to soak up the initial damage, and to make use of the Portal Spinner, Pelacor Arbalest and Prismologist to met out most of the damage. The Portal Spinner tends to be a bit of a hit and miss as the attacks are pretty random. Luckily for me, the Portal Spinner took out the Fire Elemental (which can be pretty irritating with the Blast ability) in the first round. As all monsters have no
shields, I was also able to take out the Living Lava in the first round. With these 2 cards out of the picture, I was able to finish off the rest of the cards relatively quickly.
Thoughts on the card
I think the Portal Spinner is a great card as it has fair good attack power and can evade Taunt with its Scattershot ability. However, it can be a little tricky to use due to the randomness of its attack.
