# For the first time ever... I tried but couldn't... - Splinter Stats Season 68 Report Card

Hi everyone!

It was a season of good news and bad news...
The good news is that I got myself a Waka card... the one that sold out in 40 seconds. I was all ready to go as the countdown finished up... finger on the pulse.... the timer hit 00:00:00 and then nothing happened... and then after a moment my screen refreshed and the Special Sale screen came up (which was way cooler than I expected) and 49 cards had already been sold. I had to scroll down for a second to find the Buy button, and clicked it as fast as I could... and got one... by the time I went back there were only 35 left and then a second later it was Sold Out and the Mav channel in discord was going bonkers. It was pretty fun to be involved.

I used him straight away in my battles and had a few wins immediately... until I came up against a deck that healed, cleansed and repaired the heck out of The Kraken and there was a darn thing I could do about it.

The bad news is that I tried so hard to get into Champ III... and just could not get it done.

I actually did make it into Champ III for about a minute with 2 days to go, halfway through my daily quest. I was on a really good run so figured I'd capitalize and safely secure my place... but nope, I got bounced out immediately and just kept falling further and further away.

I tried for those two days to get back in there... particularly in the last 4 hours but I just couldn't make up any ground. It was brutal.

I've been close to not making it before, but somehow always managed to scrape through... once in the last 20 minutes, but this was real hard.

Once again I lost more than I won.
I actually played way less games than previous seasons. I decided to forgo a couple of days of daily quests to give all my peers a big head start... which worked pretty well... mostly.

I actually made myself follow a rule. If I lost 3 games in a row I'd give it a rest and pick back up the next day. I don't really know if that rule helped or not. I think it did... I played a little over half as many games as last season but got close to last season's rank.

My DEC Total Standard last season was 1850 for 116 cards... so an obvious and predictable reduction there.

For the Gold Foil reward cards, last season I got 1 common and 1 rare for a Total Gold of 625... I didn't realise an Epic Gold Foil was worth 5 times more gold than a rare.

Last season I got 75 cards from Dailies, 43 from Season for a total of 2475 DEC... obviously that Gold Epic made a difference here.

Weirdly I had 164 Ranked Play Wins last season for 6246 DEC Earned. A little more than half as much for a third less wins... really shows that the DEC earned for streaks and in the higher leagues makes a difference.

I made 2K less DEC in rentals this season... but spent nothing (I did not rent Yodin again) so I ended up with 1K more DEC this season. Helps offset the less DEC earned in wins a little.

Still wild to me that I'm earning nearly $50 worth of DEC tokens renting out NFTs for a game... what even is this life?

I noticed that I've been steadily earning less and less SPS these days and I wonder if that was people collecting assets to get themselves the required SPS and vouchers for Waka cards. My overall Total Airdrop Percentage has dropped even though my collection power increased this season. Curious to see how it goes next season...

Overall I'm glad I got the Waka card. I won't know if the 5000 SPS and 500 vouchers price tag is worth it in the future... but considering it didn't technically cost me anything (I didn't buy any SPS or vouchers for this purchase) and the estimated cost at the time was around $1750 - it's currently sitting with a price tag of $2059 it seems worth it. That price has dropped in the last couple of days... but it's a fun card that definitely adds an extra element of strategy (either playing with him or trying to defend against him) that I enjoy.... and the purchasing experience was fun in itself (although I might not be saying that if my screen didn't refresh in time).

All in all - great job Splinterlands team!

I look at Champion as a rare treat, now. Very occasionally, I sneak in on the last day. I usually stop playing there. Says good things about the game I guess :)

I think I need to shift to that mindset. I've been kicked out a couple of times now and managed to work hard to sneak back in... until now. If I make it in this season I'm going to do exactly that... stop right there.
