# Things be changing so much - Splinter Stats Ranked Rewards Season 3 Report Card

@aussieninja

Hi everyone!

I wanted to get this Report Card in to be able to compare it with the new Wild & Modern formats, because I am struggling!

The important thing to work out, of course, is am I actually struggling (and for that I'll need a comparison) or am I just perceiving myself to be because I predicted that I'd be useless in the Modern format and would find the Wild format challenging. That's why this report card is important.

To remind you of my situation. I have unopened Chaos Legion packs. The only Chaos Legion cards I have are the airdropped ones, and most of my cards are from the Beta edition, with some supplemental Untamed and Dice cards.

Personally I don't think I'm going to open my CL packs. My current intention is to wait until after the CL packs are sold out, and everyone opens their packs to maximise the amount of airdropped cards they receive in their packs, and then I'll purchase the cards I like with the DEC I've been saving, and then eventually sell my CL packs.

That's my plan. I'm guessing we still might be 6 months away from selling out of Chaos Legion... and while Untamed, DICE, ORBs, Beta, Alpha and plots of land are all available on the secondary market for way more than their original sale price, that's no guarantee the same will happen for CL packs... especially since I'm sure lots of people are sitting on packs to resell and if the Splinterlands company releases the Rebellion edition shortly after CL sells out then enthusiasm for CL on the secondary market might drop off a cliff.

At that point, I would probably just open my packs and then, hopefully, be competitive in the Modern format.

At the moment, CL packs are going for $1.91 on Hive Engine which is obviously, more than half-price of the $4 packs in the Splinterlands store.

The Modern and Wild formats I think provide a more challenging experience for everyone... as far as I can tell, Modern doesn't seem as competitive in the higher leagues. There are accounts that are sitting in the top 40 of the Diamond league that haven't played a single Modern game yet... I imagine that'll flush out for the next season, but hopefully we'll see some stats on how many games were played in Modern and Wild in the different leagues... my guess is a lot more games will be played in Modern (than Wild) in the lower leagues and a lot less games in Modern in the higher leagues.

Pretty happy with my performance in this season.
I found that if I play in my early mornings I usually won more games than in my afternoons, so happy with that. I'm always pleased to get my Win/Loss ratio above 1.

I made it into Champs III which is pretty much my main goal these days and very nearly broke 4000 at one point. I played about 30 more games than I did in Season 2 and got a bit higher for my effort.

I spent a bit more time in Gold and Diamond this season, and so was able to pick up more Loot Chests and therefore received 16 more standard cards than I did last season but the same amount of gold foil cards. However, while I got more cards... my DEC Earned for Ranked Play wins was done... here I got 1100 for 122 wins while last season I got 1385 for 97 wins. Which is better, DEC or cards? I'd have to argue DEC just because it gives you more options.

Last season I got:

Total Ranked Play Earnings

🟣 12717 DEC

🟡 12590 CREDITS

So less DEC but I ended up with 3 more packs this season.

Down in both SPS airdrop and staking rewards... but I do think this season might have been a day or two shorter to make way for the Modern & Wild changes, so there might not be anything in that.

My airdropped amounts had been reducing slightly every day... but I've noticed they've flattened out now with just a few days to go. I'd say people are probably starting to move the assets they've been keeping for the airdrop points to try and beat the sale rush (this could be cards or DEC), either way, there might be some bargains available in, say, 9 days or more.

I'm so so so curious to see how my rewards work out at the end of this current season. I'll need to remember that it's an 18 day season, but I'm finding it pretty tough to find any wins (which makes sense, I'm sure I'm playing much more established players now).

Hmm.. I suppose the mismatch in prices for CL card packs is due to the current DEC prices too. It's at around $0.00058 (last I checked), but each CL card pack is sold for 4000 DEC. So you can get it at ~60% of the price in Credits.

As for the Modern format, I must say it's a lot harder than I thought. At Silver II, I'm battling opponents who have much stronger cards than me, and which I didn't see as much previously in the original Wild format. I also partly blame it on the mobile Splinterland app. I think the default format on the app is stuck at the Wild format until it gets updated.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I actually didn't realise you could buy CL packs with DEC. I just checked and you're right, the price for a CL pack is 4000 Credits or 4000 DEC but buying with DEC puts it at about $2.39 or 2390 Credits. That's good to know, thank you.

In that case I wonder if we'll see a bunch of people buying CL packs with the DEC they've been holding for the SPS airdrop. DEC has been one of the most efficient ways to increase your SPS airdrop points, and when it finishes in 9 days, I had assumed people would buy cards... but we might see packs shoot up too. Interesting.

Just for future reference, current stats:

9,091,549 packs purchased (39.4% of the edition available)
about 5,708k packs opened (3,384k packs circulating)
