My 1 year anniversary on hive

Introduction

12 November 2021 I started my journey on hive and splinterlands
It was a bumpy road the past year. In this post I will share my journey thus far including the financial aspect of it.

Why i still play

First of all I want to say I'm not in it to become financial independent by this game. Would be a nice benefit if it happens, more important for me is the entertainment value without the loss of money :).
I understand you will need to invest in the game to play it and I like the economics of the game.

I still play splinterlands because I enjoy the game and that is by far the most important for me.

Also this is the game I have invested most in, ever!

I think the game can and should move on for more casual players. I enjoy tournaments once every so often. I suck at it, I'm often glad when I just get my entry fee back 🤣.

So i hope in the future they will expand also something like bosses or adventures on the land expansions. Not always with a financial benefit in mind but more game honor respect or items. Things like profile picture or unique cards that can be hand picked with abilities that you earned/found and battled for your land or on that of others.

Financial aspect

I started at moment everything was very expensive and not able to buy card packs and untamed cards where very expensive. IIRC it was between presale and general sale of chaos league. Crypto was at its highs. My first card i bought was a venari wavesmith for 6$ currently trading for 0.023$ 🤣.
I believe in the DCA (Dollar Cost Average) method so i applied that in splinterlands,
also not having the funds to pay a few thousand dollars at once.

My buy ins, all between 50€ - 500€ most of the times 100€

Chaos legion cards from market (Silver maxed)
Level 1 Untamed cards (Starter cards)
Staked SPS to play silver and gold tournaments
50 RW packs

1 Lux Vega 😍

What did i earn along the way beside the entertainment

CL reward cards
SPS, battling/trounaments/staking
DEC and SPS from diesel pool
DEC renting out some cards i do not use or have extra copies of
CL packs by posting Battle Challenge and social media posts on hive

I have not sold a single card yet. I would like to get some experience in card flipping just for fun and some extra funds to expand further.

Current value

At the moment I still invest every month between 100 - 200€
This image includes values from cards/packs/land plot/DEC/SPS/liquidity pool (DEC:SPS).
All at market price.

So even that the market is down at the moment I'm still OK with my investment at least it has not plummet to zero. This snapshot was taken before the sad news that the splinterlands team is reduced by 45%, the next one is the impact a few days later.

I must say that the last spike on investment is caused by Lux Vega, invested 450€.
Also the loss of value is limited by all the earnings from posting approximately 170 CL pack worth about 230$
