Death Becomes Me

This time we will focus on how to effectively win matches using the Death Splinter. This is one of my go to splinters since the launch of Chaos Legion. And we will do a deep dive into the different strategies we can execute when using the dark deck.

Now on to the first battle

Death Battle 1 Death VS Fire

This is a standard match pitting my Thaddius Brood summoner vs Pyre. It is a low mana cost battle with only 14 on the pool. One of the strengths of the black deck is it's low mana cost summons. I went with Cursed Windeku for the first position tank, carrion shade, undead badger and shadowy presence. My focus is to have a backline attack available while still maintaning a strong frontline position and damage absorbers in between.
My opponent went with Living Lava, Radiated Scorecher, Goblin Fireballer, and chaos agent.

Death Battle 1 Round 1

By the end of the first round i already have eliminated the chaos agent thru my undead badger. It's pretty even at the front with both tanks having 5 hp left and no armor. The cursed windeku does return damage because of it's thorns ability. I have a small advantage of 4 cards to 3.
image.png

Death Battle 1 Round 2

The goblin fireballer was immediately taken out again by the undead badger. It was supposed to take 2 hits but because my summoner has minus 1 hp for all enemy monsters, it was killed in just 1 turn. My tank having higher speed also evaded an attack by the living lava ending the round with 1 more hp.
image.png

Death Battle 1 Round 3

The raidiated scorcher was again taken out in one hit. With the help of return damage, thorns, both living lava and cursed windeku is down to 2 health. This is a bit tricky and if i attack first in the next round i would win. If my tank goes down first then i would have lost because no other monster in my lineup can damage the living lava because of its shield ability.

Death Battle 1 Round 4 and 5

The living lava again missed it's attack on my cursed windeku. All it takes is one more attack, and even if living lava attacks first, the thorns damage will also eliminate it ensuring victory for me. The match would end with me still having all cards alive on the lineup.

Death Battle 2 Death vs Dragon

Here's another way to play the death splinter, this time focusing on magic attacks. It is a 14 mana pool battle and my opponent often uses Drake Arnak the summoner to gain armor. So my strategy here is to have many damage absorbers and a couple of magic damage dealers positioned in the back.
For frontline damage absorbers, I went with Shadowy Presence, Chaos Agent, Cursed Slimeball, Carrion Shade. And for magic damage dealers: Death Elemental and Life Sapper.
My opponent went with Cursed Windeku, Life Sapper and Carrion Shade to protect his backlines. Full battle here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_c87a38b094c08cb8dff65d46e37f8bb5&ref=beerbod

Death Battle 2 Round 1

By the end of the first round I managed to take out enemy life sapper before it does any damage. My life sapper on the other hand dealt 1 damage to enemy tank and has gained 1 hp. My shadowy presence tank can take one more hit in the next which is a huge advantage for me as my damage dealers would be left healthy at least for a few more rounds. On the other hand from 9hp, cursed windeku is down to 7 due to the summoner debuff of Thaddius brood and life sappers damage.
image.png

Death Battle 2 Round 2

As expected the shadow presnce was taken out, moving the chaos agent into the first position, it has only 1 hp and can only absorb 1 attack instance. Opponents tank life is down to 5. And with me dealing 2 damage each round it will take 3 more rounds to eliminate the enemy tank.
image.png

Death Battle 2 Round 3

Chaos agent is dead and cursed slimeball moves to first position. Enemy First position card is down to 3 HP. And will last for just 2 more round.
image.png

Death Battle 2 Round 4

While i may no longer have any damage absorbers (because the carrion shade also died last round from attacking and recieving thorns damage) I am still guaranteed to win here. The cused windeku is down to 1hp and only needs a single attack. On the other hand my life sapper has already built up a health pool of 6. which would take a lot of rounds to be taken down given the cards in play.
image.png

Death Battle 2 Round 5

My death elemental attacked first and the finishing blow to the carrion shade will be dealt by the life sapper ending the match with a super high hp of 7. It is a great win demonstrating the magic prowess of the death lineup.

Death Battle 3 Death vs Earth

The full battle can be viewed here: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_4e30ee00013f1410aa31ffb3c317dbb3&ref=beerbod
My opponent went with a magic damage lineup with obsidian summoner. He has unicorn mustang to negate incoming magic damage, and 3 magic damage monsters with Khmer Princess, Elven Mystic and Goblin Psychic.
My lineup is a mix of physical and magic damage. First my summoner thaddius brood will reduce enemy magic damage countering his summoner, and with an additional debuff of -1 hp. I enter the match with a good advantage. Same as before i have cursed windeku as my tank, shadowy presence as the off tank, undead badger for that sneak damage, life sapper for magic damage, death elemental for that snipe magic damage, and my main damaging card silent sha-vi for that 2 damage sneak attack in the backlines.
image.png

Death Battle 3 Round 1

In just 1 round, I already dealt a huge blow to my enemy. The unicorn mustang has recieved 5 damage in total. 1 from the thaddis debuff, 2 from the cursed windeku, and another 2 from the thorns return damage. My death elemental also took out the khmer princess and cursed badger together with silent sha-vi took out the goblin psychic.
image.png

Death Battle 3 Round 2

And with me still having a complete lineup. And damage coming from all sides. I destroyed the enemies remaining splinters just before the second round ended, securing me an easy victory.

I'm a big fan of the thorns ability on the Windeku. Evens the playing field a bit now that new players have access to it, via Windeku, Venari Knifer and Djinn Chwala. One of my favourite thorns plays involves Drake of Arnac for the +1 armour and playing Chwala upfront & Windeku in the back. Great for melee only and some super sneak rulesets.

Thats a great tip. Didnt occur to me that i could use windeku and chwalla at the same lineup on sneak rulesets. Thanks so much ill be giving this strategy a try.
