In deep interview: Splinterrents with @grosh

A couple of weeks ago I began to run a service that allows me to rent my cards to generate extra DEC. This income has allowed me to reach Diamond league with much fewer investments. Some days ago I met one of the members of this fantastic team and interviewed him. It's amazing how a great #play2earn game like #Splinterlands offers opportunities to all of us like this. I say, again and again, that community is our strongest point. Hope you enjoy it!

Introducing @grosh

So man! Quite a few days have passed since we arranged this interview but finally, here we are! I am so happy to celebrate this arrangement. First of all what about introducing yourself to the community?

So I am from the Netherlands, living pretty central close to Utrecht & I am 25 years old. I work in B2B sales, selling e-commerce software to businesses. Besides getting into a new business, I also spend time managing relationships with our partners. Outside of work I currently spend a lot of time on SplinterRents 😉 Besides that, I like to go to the gym or for a walk as I don't have a lot of movement during my day job. My weekends are often a combination of socializing with friends & family. When I get the chance, I love to explore new countries and get to know new people. I just came back from a road trip vacation through Croatia for example.

Wow love Croatia! Dubrovnik is a GoT chapter turned into life, and all the country goes by sea! With fantastic gastronomic culture and the Mediterranean way of life. I am from Barcelona! Also a lovely place and even more for Netherlands people! You are welcome to visit us! To advance through the interview When did you get into the crypto world and when did you join Splinterlands?

I got into crypto back in 2017 when bitcoin was around 6000$. Back then there was a real hype around new coins, and I bought some Electroneum (ETN) in that period. At the end of 2020, ETN became a payment method for Splinterlands. I didn't come across the concept of play to earn yet back then, and I loved it. Before I knew it, I owned a pretty decent beta deck to do my battles 🙂

Wow! so u are a really lucky guy, to join the beta? how many CP do u own nowadys?

No I joined during the beginning of untamed. But I figured it would be better to get all in on Beta haha.
To be fair, I am not certain how much CP power I have, as it is split among multiple accounts. However, it must be above 2 million.

Above 2 million? OMG! I joined almost a year ago and managed to stack 70kcp and just with that much I am beginning to manage my earnings. Can't imagine what u could do with that much cp.

Well I am playing myself in diamond/champion. Besides that I am renting out a lot of cards using the SplinterRents course

Splinterrents: the service that makes your cards work for you

Well let's talk about Splinterrents... Tell me about the team, and the beginnings of everything...

Of course! We started SplinterRents with the 3 of us. @Macacinho, @Synnri, and me.
Macacinho is also the person who got me into crypto back in 2017, and ever since we have been involved in crypto the 3 of us. So once I started Splinterlands, I course invited Macacinho and Synnri to join.
Back then renting didn't exist in-game yet and we discussed if there was some possibility to let our idle cards get passive income.
Once Splinterlands added the ability to rent out cards via the platform, this was something we slowly started to automate for ourselves. When we learned there was a lot of demand for such a service, we made quite some changes so it would be scalable. We tested it out with 5 users and once ready, we launched the discord service.
Since our launch, we have been working a lot on improving both the algorithm that decides the price, as well as additional settings and features.
All that effort pays out though, as we are currently the best-performing rental service available!

Man u have changed my mind forever. I didn't pay too much attention to the rental market because I thought that potential earnings were not worth my time. But with a service that does this work for you, everything turns the other way around. Now cards that I don't use to get to champion, generate enough income for 50% of my rental budget. That's a lot of savings. How long have u been developing the tool

We have been developing it very slowly for personal use for quite some time already. Somewhere in May, we decided to change it around and develop it so that other players could use the service as well and it would be scalable. Almost the entire month of June we used to test a lot of things, fine-tune the algorithm, and work on the configuration of settings for our users. At the beginning of July, we went live and had the first users started.

How many active users do u move daily? Is it growing? And an approximate volume DEC in rentals?

We currently have almost 200 accounts that use our service. However, some users have multiple accounts. We steadily growing and the referral fee our users can get is a good help for that :). (don't forget to have your referral code in the article 😉 ). I don't know the numbers for DEC right now, but if I remember correctly there are around 300k cards managed by splinterrents!

u are doing a great project with solid growth. Tell me how was it that u decided Discord as an important tool of the service?

Users have told us their priority is to get the highest return possible, also if that means not a fancy front-end.
So, our main focus is to make sure our users get the highest return possible. Therefore we wanted to fully focus on our pricing algorithm. Having discord to let our users manage their configurations, enabled us to focus on the algorithm. We are still testing out a lot of things to tweak and make improvements as well!
This also pays off since we are performing at least 10-15% better compared to other rental services!

In my opinion Discord simplifies everything It's a tool that everyone is used to and allows devs to center on what's important. So thank you very much indeed for your time! Hope this interview helps to increase the knowledge of your service in the community

My personal experience using the service

As I mentioned before, everything is controlled by the Discord bot. I've around 70KCP that has been managed for a little more than 2 weeks. This is my resume from all this time.

image.png

As you can see in the first part of the screen, bots send users a daily resume of how rentals have gone, charging 5% of the generated income that you have to send at least once a week. All this time I've accumulated 23kDEC earnings and 1K sent to @splinterrents as fees. I also leave my referral code 326236525476184064 in case you consider using it when registering the service. I also created a post explaining the whole setup and recommend joining their Discord for more help and information. Also, there's a recent post comparing performances of different rental services that maybe you are interested in
