Mastering Blind

One of my best Twitter accounts is Splinterlands. It keeps me informed about all the important news in the ecosystem and #Hive posting events like a media challenge. In my opinion, those challenges are an incredible way of increasing the pride of being part of this community, as every player shares his/her game experience with others, allowing others to learn about everyone's successes and mistakes. For this one, I will speak about one of the best abilities of the whole game: Blind. Hope you like it!

My suggestion on Blind ability

Brush your teeth every night you go to sleep and always, always, always use sunscreen if you go to the beach. To these two universal pieces of advice that almost 100% of people would agree, one day we'll have to add a third one related to the ability of our post: Blind enemy creatures in combat. So simple, so certain. The more I go deep into this fantastic game, the more I realize that everything is decided by details. And in those details always appears a missing attack on your troop when your opponent needed to. A missing attack gives time to your tank to be healed, a missing attack triggers a resurrect one turn later. Missing attacks buy your army time to reach their objectives and lead you to victory.

There are 5 abilities related to blind that is used to calculate hit chance (they are modifiers to the hit probability):

Swiftness increases the whole army with +1 Speed. Speed is such an important ability that decides who strikes first. And as usually said, who strikes the first strikes twice? Also is important to calculate the chance to hit. The more speed your army is, the more strikes will evade. Every point of +1 speed vs your enemy attacker is a 10% chance to evade the attack. Trust me when I said. This 10% can be the difference between hell and heaven. I play Naga Assassin again and again with Dragon just to get this +1 speed just for 2 mana

image.png

Slow is the opposite ability from Swiftness as a Debuf to the enemy team. It gives -1 Speed to all enemy units except the ones that got immunity (i.e. Harklaw, Revealer...). Another important ability that becomes decisive when things got close. It proceeds in the same way as its predecessor with the to-hit rate. An enemy creature with a -1 on speed will get a -10% on hit. Venator Kinjo is another superb reward card that has a few days to be minted with an around 20% of its total amount. No more copies will ever be minted. Slow, Amplify, -Immunity and Reflecting shield for just two mana.

image.png

For our third ability we've got Phase, the one that changes the whole dynamics on magical attacks, allowing the victim to evade them like melee or ranged with the same rules on-hit applied. This is the best defensive ability for a tank. It's very frustrating watching one of your magical creatures missing an attack, as it's something that should not normally happen. Representing rewards creatures that got this ability there's a pelacor conjurer, Evading enemy Magical attacks and reflecting them when hit. Just a nightmare for enemies.

Flying is one of the best abilities in the game. It grants an absolute +25% evading chance AFTER the to-hit ratio is calculated. This means that a 100% to hit gets automatically transformed into a 75% because of flying: 1 of 4 100% secure attacks on this creature will miss. This is insane. It's very important to remark that this bonus is applied no matter circumstances. Flying gives victories to your army. Also grants immunity to earthquakes which is also welcome. Representing the reward team there's Pelacor Bandit, such a great creature for Sneaking teams that future Splinterlands players will regret not having him minted for free.

Finally we find Dodge, same -25% on evade attacks AFTER the to-hit speed ratio is calculated. The only difference between Flying is that unfortunately, Dodge does not bring Earthquake immunity. This means that a creature with Flying and dodges evades 50% of their 100% to-hit with speed attacks (that's insane). Representing the rewards set we find Vulguine (love this guy). Dodge with Enrage grants him tons of survivability and turns him a headache for enemies. One of the kins of low mana combats.

My bet for the future: Buy Spirit Hoarder

image.png

As there is no blind on Reward creatures I would like to recommend Spirit Hoarder now that we are reaching the End of Chaos Legion Edition. This creature is incredible and has got 3 of the best abilities in the game. Our ability in the post: Blind, gives enemy creatures a -15% to-hit, AFTER speed is applied (same way Flying and Dodge). This means that a blinded creature attacking a Flying/Dodge enemy will miss at least 65% of his attacks. In addition to this point, he has triage, which works fantastic in tons of situations healing ally creatures not positioned first and disabled!!! Will Disable quit Bloodlust bonus? ^^

A little less conversation a little bit more action

As the Japanese say, an image is worth a thousand words. I hope that with this example I can resume all the theories in combat I made. Can't find words about how proud I am of this combat I share, as it is one of the best. Both armies looked as follows:

image.png

  • It was a 12-mana sneaking team with no range. Both players decided on Water. My opponent chose a Uraeus / Pelacor Team covered backdoors by a Chaos Agent, and I chose to change Uraeus for Spirit Hoarder, granting Blind on enemy creatures and supporting my Chaos Agent if needed.
  • As you can see in the image, while enemy creatures had a -40% to hit (this is insane as we are not used to seeing a Pelacor Bandit missing attacks), mine got only a -25% thanks to that he was not blinded.
  • Also if my Chaos Agent evaded, would return 2 damage thanks to backfire.

I leave you the entire battle here

So it's time for all of us to load up those wonderful rewards before they get printed out! And remember to take to-hit formulas into account to increase your winning rate!
