Do you prefer Rift Watchers or Chaos Legion Summoners?

After a flurry of sales in the not-so-distant past to raise funds for our postponed relocation plans, I've started growing my Splinterlands collection once again. At the time of writing, I'm contesting at the summit of the Silver league with 194,765 collection power and summoners contribute only 8800 of that.

For now, I'm focused on slowly growing my collection to enable me to get ahead in the Silver league. I think things are progressing quite well as I currently sit in the 38th spot on the SIlver league leaderboard and a big part of this growth has been because of my summoners.

In recent times, I've been heavily reliant on the Rift Watcher Gems epic summoners and their unique buffs have actually been a masterstroke. I've evolved various strategies that work on the summoners at my disposal and life has never been better.

Chaos or Gems

I've used most of the rare chaos legion summoners and for the most part, it is safe to say they were pretty basic. Don't get me wrong, it is not like I don't fancy them but their fanciness pales in comparison to their Epic Gem counterparts.

Perhaps it might not be fair to compare rare summoners to epic summoners but even the legendary Chaos Legion summoners currently in circulation aren't exactly spinning heads.

In the past 20 ranked battles I played, only one player used a legendary chaos legion monster and that was Quix the Devious which is one of the earliest releases of the lot.

Perhaps there's no need to think to deeply about it since there are only three available legendary monsters in the Chaos department. However, it is still quite fascinating how I almost never encounter anybody using the last two airdropped Chaos Legendary summoners.

Then again, I also don't encounter too many people using the Rift Watcher gems but that could be down to the fact that they're relatively new, more expensive and would require major tweaks in your strategy, especially if you've gotten used to the Chaos Legion monsters.

Anyway, I've been growing my personal collection of summoners and from my observation, it is much easier and cheaper to max out Rift Watcher summoners than it is for Chaos Legion monsters.

In fact, my hunch is that the only reason more people aren't using Rift Watcher summoners is because of the tactical tweak it might require. These summoners offer unique buffs that generally require special strategies to maximise.

In terms of pricing, it is much cheaper to actually upgrade a Rift Watcher gem summoner than it is to get a Chaos Legion summoner to the same level. This is on account of the fact that Rift Watchers are epics but currently cost just about the same as Rare chaos legion summoners.

If you look at the pricing chart I screenshotted and edited from Summoner lab, you'll notice that despite the fact Chaos Legion monsters have relatively cheaper unit prices, it will still cost a bit more to get them to level 4, against getting an Epic summoner to level 3 that is the maxed out silver rating.

For example, if we focused on just Earth summoners, you'll notice that it is much cheaper to upgrade Fernheart to level 3 than it is to upgrade Obsidian to level 4

At $4.01 per monster, it would cost on $40.1 to get the Epic and rarer summoner to level 3, whereas it would cost around $54.75 to get Obsidian to the same level. Keep in mind that Obsidian's unit price is technically cheaper than Fernheart, the Chaos Summoner is generally more expensive to use at a higher level, despite having a lower rarity.

This phenomenon between the Earth summoner counterparts is found across all the Splinters. So all I'm saying is that while the epic monsters have higher unit prices, they're still much cheaper to upgrade and use in ranked battles in higher leagues.

On top of being cheaper, Epic RW summoners are also from a mini collection, meaning there will be much fewer in circulation and this could potentially translate to a spike in their future value when RW gems are out of circulation. So, in my opinion, RW summoners offer better value than CL summoners but if you're very rich, just buy all of them.

For gold league the difference in price is even better for the epic summoners.

I really like the fact that you have to tune your lineup to the summoner.

In silver league you need to rent a giant squid with blind, it is the only blind monster in silver league and it greatly improved the strength of aquatus

For the skargore and thispa I recommend a supply runner with the swiftness ability

For the life summoner I would go max amplified reflection by using monsters that already have magic reflect our thorns and then add the 2 mana epic card that gets amplify at level 2.

Another thing is that strategies are easier to build around Chaos legion summoners as some of them already provides you with headways. Well I do not own any riftwatchers summoners so I cannot really judge, all I can say is that I've faced them. They're very potent and deadly but at the end of the day, it's all about money.
