Guilds, Gladius and SPS trading thoughts

A Splinterlands guild is basically an association or group of players that band together into a group. In the guild, players participate in growing the guild through contributions and participating in guild wars.

Guild battles work in pretty much the same way as normal battles. Although the battles are set up in a home-and-away setting, that doesn't actually have any impact on the outcome of battles.

For individuals that participate in guild battles, you earn merits. You can only earn merits from guild battles and as far as I can tell, they're not tradable.

Gladius Cards

So far, the only thing I know you can do with merits is purchase gladius packs. I've never seen any gladius card listed on the market and I've also never used any of them in battle.

I added like 5 of them to my collection when I bought a gladius pack with the merits I accumulated from guild battles. Ever since then, I've been making a conscious effort to ensure I play my part in battles, earning merits and crowns for my guild in the process.

Gladius cards seem to add to one's collection power though. So, even though I can't use them in battle, you could burn them for small DEC. Personally, I don't think that's a good idea, it's better to just hold on to them until they have use.

Tournament participation

Participating in tournaments is a nice way to increase your earnings from the game. You may or may not be able to participate in all the tournaments because they often have specific requirements that must be met.

All the juicy tournaments often require a considerable amount of SPS to be staked before you participate. Going forward, this will be a thing that will encourage more people to stake SPS.

This will invariably have a positive impact on the price of the token, especially as the rewards from participating in tournaments continue to rise.

Earning SPS from battles

Something else that's only been mildly talked about is the future of SPS tokens with regards to earning from battles.

The thought of it is rather interesting, and I kind of wonder what or how this would look like. I don't think we'll be earning SPS in the same volume we earn DEC because, considering the price of SPS and the future of the token, I don't think that level of printing will be healthy.

With that said though, looking at the trajectory of the SPS token and the community's reaction, it's not out of the question to think that virtually everything will be gobbled up and staked anyway.

The main focus of SPlinterlands in recent times has been to create reasons for SPS to be staked. This is evident in the fact that right now, far more SPS tokens are staked when compared to the amount that's left liquid.

I'm a best of both worlds kind of guy, so I always stake but I also always keep some liquid, in case of a monumental pump. I always want to be able to take profit because I have a major life decision close ahead that we have to start sorting out.

Look out for Arbitrage Opportunities

Finally, look out for arbitrage opportunities in SPS and DEC. For example, a moment ago, I noticed SPS was being traded for around $0.694 on Hive-engine DEX but was going for $0.77 on Pancakeswap Dex.

This means that you can simply move your SPS to Pancake, sell it there and buy back more SPS with the proceeds. So with all things being equal, assuming you sold 500 SPS tokens on Pancake for $385, you could buy back 554 SPS tokens on Hive-engine.

There are also minor arbitrage opportunities for DEC as well. It's more effective in larger volumes of course but it is something that you should always look out for.
