What if Raiden was a Splinterlands monster?

avatar

I'm still Exploring the possibility of a Mortal Kombat-Splinterlands mix, and to do so,, I'll be picking some of my favourite characters and then fitting them into the different Splinters(Earth, Fire, Water, Dragon, Death, and Life). So far, we have three Splinters completed and Raiden is the third. Here are the previous episodes:

Death Splinter: What if SCORPION was a Splinterlands monster

Water Splinter: What if SUB ZERO was a Splinterlands monster

Earth Splinter: What if NIGHTWOLF was a Splinterlands monster

Raiden( Life Splinter)

Raiden is one of the most iconic Mortal Kombat characters out there, because he's been around since the earliest installments of the game in 1992, and has been a staple ever since. Depending on the canon you've seen, you might either know home as the God of Thunder, or some old dude with white hair that doesn't do much fighting.

Raiden is the protector of Earth realm and is usually at the forefront of any defence to Earth. Along with other characters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Kuei Lang, Kung lao and others, he defends the earth against outworld's Shao Khan and the Nether realms Shinnock.

Raiden's character has been through a lot of changes over the course of the franchise; owing to his immortality, he can't actually die but his soul and his brother, Fujin's soul were absorbed by Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat aftermath. Thanks to the time-travelling fuckery in the game, his past self had fused with Liu Kang, thus converting the chosen one into the thunder-fire god, we'll get to that part later.

Despite being a god, the mortal combat universe has some sort of leveler, in that if he comes to human form, he can only do as much as his human body's limitation offers. So he's been killed a couple of times by top rated villains like Tsang Sung, and Shao Khan.

Abilities

Raiden is the God of thunder,so he largely depends on Magic to do damage in battles. He hardly gets into physical confrontations with people, but whenever the time comes, he's more than capable of handling himself.

He's typically the last one to get into battle and in most situations, will go up against the opponent that causes his chosen warriors trouble. Most of his attacks, whether physical or with magic are lightning-based and also affects opponents within a certain range.

Another interesting thing about Raiden is that he has the ability to bring dead people to life, and become zombies that will do his bidding. In one episode of Mortal Kombat series, he brought Liu Kang back to life and used him to commit all sorts of dastardly deeds, although it was because he was consumed by dark lord Shinnok's amulet of evil.

He's among the few Mortal Kombat characters that can fly, and he does that through controlling the electric field around him. He's not the fastest, but I reckon that's owing to the fact that he doesn't necessarily evade hits too often but he does alright. He also summons portals that can be used for transporting people from different realms.

Splinterlands Lore

Many years before Tyrus became a summoner and unaware of the prophecy, he was just a young boy trying to catch fish and make ends meet. On one day, he was on his way to his usual fishing spot, and ran into an elderly man with a straw hat on. The man was later found out to be Lord Raiden, and all he said was "find Liu Kang"

Raiden's Stats

  • Melee: 1-2(level 1-4)
  • Magic: 2-4(1-4)
  • Speed: 2-4(1-4)
  • Mana cost: 8

I love this series. For a moment I thought this would be a new monster card.

Thanks for sharing! - @ashikstd

Fantastic concept.
I used to like Raiden so much when I played Mortal Kombat 4 as a kid.
I liked its flying ability the most.
Yeah, it'd be fantastic if we could found Raiden or someone similar to Raiden in splinterlands.
Nice thinking.
Cheers.
