What if Sub Zero was a Splinterlands Monster?

Last week, I discussed the concept of introducing Hanzo Hasashi, popularly known as Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat franchise into Splinterlands and I got some positive responses that inspired me to create a Mortal Kombat themed legendary monster set for each of the remaining Splinters(Water, Earth, Fire, Life, and Dragon) and that brought us to where we are today.

Sub Zero (Water Splinter)

Going by the Alias Sub Zero, Kuai Liang is the ice magic martial artist of the deadly group of assassins in the Lin Kuei that were allegedly behind the assassination and cold-blooded slaughter of the entire Shirai Ryu, you know, Scorpion's clan. Actually, the story is kind of complicated because in reality, it was his elder brother known as Bi Han, (previously killed by Scorpion, crazy, I know) under the Sub Zero alias that did it. This incident led to the feud between himself and Scorpion that spanned many lifetimes because they literally killed each other a couple of times in different canons.

Unlike his elder brother (Bi Han the previous Sub Zero), Kuai Liang showed more compassion for his opponents in battle and would only kill when he absolutely had to. Initially, his main goal was to kill Scorpion but after talking with Raiden, he joined the Earth Realm fighters in a bid to save the planet against the tyranny of Shao Khan.

After making amends with Scorpion, he brought some semblance of peace and decorum within the ranks of the Lin Kuei as well, and also unsuccessfully tried to get his brother out of the dark side which he found himself in after being killed by Scorpion and resurrected by the same sorcerer, Quanchi that caused his death. Making peace with Scorpion was a pivotal moment in his life, because, at that moment, he formedvery formidable ally.

Did I mention his brother, previous Sub Zero(Bi Han) was resurrected as Noob Saibot? Yeah, the same one that worked for Shao Khan. Other prominent members of the Lin Kuei are fan favourites like Cyrax, Sector and Smoke.

Abilities

Sub Zero is a skilled fighter, capable of going toe to toe with Scorpion on numerous occasions and even winning some. Some people refer to the battles between them as fire vs ice since Scorpion moved to the underworld and got fire-based abilities and Sub Zero has the cryomancer ability that enables him stuns his opponents in a block of ice, amongst other ice-based tricks.

He's not catching a cold anytime soon

Don't get it twisted though, he doesn't use his ice for just chilling, in fact, he likes to get creative with the ice and has been known to pull out spines, or maybe literally ripping people into two after freezing one half of their body. He also makes ice traps that freezes people on contact, can make an ice slide in one second that will be really cool for parties, turns his ice into ice swords that clash with Katana's without breaking and just about anything else you can imagine someone does with ice, only more dramatic.

When he's not using his Ice magic, he's never afraid of getting his hands dirty through his Shotokan Martial art technique. It really doesn't matter where you want to take the fight, this man is strapped and that is why he's a big fan's favourite.

Fitting into the game

Well, he uses Ice magic, so that already qualifies him to be a legendary monster in the Water Splinter. His story could be intertwined with Alric Stormbringer or that Turtle Summoner that looks like a ninja.

He's going to have both Melee and magic attack and so can be used in all sorts of ways. He's kind of a ninja in that he hides his face but he's not one to do sneak attacks and always likes to take his opponent face to face, so this will play into defining his basic attributes. He's not a speed merchant but is pretty nimble in battle and his fighting style is heavily reliant on him stunning(freezing) his opponent with his ice magic.

The fact that he likes to announce himself by literally cooling the air around the entire building and slowing everybody down is also backed by the fact that he's no slouch when it is time to take hits. The man is very sturdy, evident in the fact that he's actually been impaled numerous times by scorpion in their many duels.

Weakness

Much like any magic user, his real weakness is the fact that his magic can be reflected against him. Depending on the Mortal Kombat game you've played, you'll notice that Sub Zero has actually frozen himself or can be frozen by someone else that also uses the same type of magic he does.

This is all hypothetical of course, and will ideally be tweaked to accommodate any rule that Splinterlands monsters follow.
