Powerful creatures made from clay, brought to life by magic. Needing neither food nor sleep, these indestructible guardians are the Robots of the magical realms. ๐Ÿ—ฟ๐Ÿงฑ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

(Instead of the Gargoya Scrapper, I've decided to write about the Clay Golem. The Clay Golem is more like a supercharged big brother version of the Scrapper and I've been renting this amazing card this week with great results!)

According to Jewish legend, only the very wisest and very holiest rabbis had the power to make golems, animated servants of clay. The most famous of all golem legends is probably The Golem of Prague, who legend has it, was created by Judah Loew ben Bezalel, the late 16th-century rabbi. Needless to say, it would get out of control and go on a destructive rampage, as such stories warning against Man trying to play God tend to go.

The theme of this week's Share Your Battle Challenge - I give you the CLAY GOLEM! ๐Ÿ—ฟ๐Ÿงฑ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

The Clay Golems have lived in the caves of Crystal peak since the days before the Splintering. They were created thousands of years ago by early Khymian sorcery. They do not require food or sleep, and they are nearly indestructible. The Order of the Silver Shield is especially interested in the Golems because of their resistance to magic..

SYB CLAY GOLEM.png

The Clay Golem is a Rare card released during the Alpha and Beta series. It has definitely found it's place in many Life decks given its availability and usefulness. At LEVEL 1, it has 3 โš”๏ธATTACKโš”๏ธ and 1 ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸปSPEED๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป, with 0 ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธARMOR๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ and 7 โค๏ธHEALTHโค๏ธ. It has the VOID ability at this level. It's summoning cost is also on the higher range at 6 ๐ŸงชMANA๐Ÿงช.

These stats alone make the Clay Golem a really tough unit which also deals really good damage to boot. Unfortunately, it is rather slow though, so misses are expected. But it's main purpose is really to get in a few hits if possible and be able to soak up the damage too. It would make a fantastic Main Tank!

The Clay Golem's true strength lies in it's VOID ability. This is where it starts to shine as it's tanky stats, when combined with VOID, allow it to counter all Magic based attacks. This could make all the difference if the battle comes down to the wire where the slightest advantage is the fine line between victory or defeat! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

(

The Alpha and Beta sets have given the Life splinter a really unique card in the Clay Golem. This is a card that has strong attacking power and really slow speed. With an amazing 3 attack but only 1 speed (even up till level 10), I would not even count on the Clay Golem to hit any of it's opponents reliably at all ๐Ÿ˜‚. However, the addition of the VOID ability changes this card completely. It becomes an amazing anti magic tank ๐Ÿ˜ฑ!

The only other card with VOID among ALL the Life units in the game is the Gargoya Scrapper, yet it only gets this ability at level 3! If you play at the Novice League, the maximum level of Common cards available to you is level 1, which would mean the Clay Golem is the ONLY VOID unit that one can use in a Life deck!

This ensures that the Clay Golem will definitely have it's own place here in all Life decks. This is definitely what I'd consider game changing! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐Ÿ“ŠCard Stats by Level๐Ÿ“Š

2.png

As we can see here, the main purpose of the Clay Golem is to be a hard hitting Tank. Every level improves it's tanking stats all the way to level 8. At level 5, it even gets the ENRAGE ability which will cause it to hit even harder than ever after taking damage!

Of course, even though it has really good damage, it's main purpose is still as an anti magic tank. If it manages to hit anyone though, it'll be a fair chunk of health that's going to be taken from it's poor victim. I would consider the Enrage ability and it's maximum upgraded 4 attack to be just icing on the cake.

๐Ÿ“Important Rulesets Rundown๐Ÿ“

Here, I detail the list of combat rulesets that may affect the Clay Golem.

๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญโœ…โŒ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญโ“โ“โ“
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป It's attack will never miss
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Gives itself more protection. Always good, especially for a unit whose purpose is to take hits.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Loses all it's abilities.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Ranged units can't be used.
N.A. Ranged units can attack from the front.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป will be able to last longer than most cards with it's health/armor though.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป It has a relatively high health pool, which means other units benefit more than it from this ruleset.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Able to lend it's attack from any slot.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Even summoning cost
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Unlikely to dodge any attack with it's low speed, thus the unit next to it will almost definitely take Blast damage.
N.A
N.A
Situational. Could add more damage if the opponent's front unit is stunned
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Improve it's own survivability
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Melee units are affected.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Only units which cost 4 or less mana can be used.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป No Legendary cards can be used.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Magic units cannot be used
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Gives melee the positional attack advantage enjoyed by ranged/magic
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Will die to poison.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Only odd summoning cost units can be used.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป It's slow speed makes it fast
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Only common/rare cards can be used.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Doesn't really depend on Summoner abilities
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Enrage works out well for units who can take a few hits
N.A
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป All units abilities stay intact
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Allows melee to attack even if it's not in the first slot.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป It is NOT a Neutral unit.
N.A. All ranged/magic units have the Snipe ability.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Units lose all their armor. But it doesn't have any to begin with.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Only Melee units can be used
N.A.

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กMy Battle Showcase๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

Let me present a battle I fought recently in which I used the Clay Golem. My opponent used the EARTH splinter, while I went for the LIFE splinter. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป

At first glance, it would seem like my opponent had quite an advantage over me.

  • His Summoner was the Scarred Llama Mage.

  • His very last unit in the backline was Kron the Undying.

  • Yes! It was the infamous LLAMA-KRON combo! Widely considered one of the most powerful combinations in Splinterlands. Especially at the Silver League and below (I was playing in the Silver League too), where there is little to no counters available for this immensely broken pair of cards.

  • He even fielded an extremely strong Gold Foil epic Grund in the frontline, which when backed with a double healer team could potentially deal a devastating amount of damage and also tank.

Clearly, in terms of card rarity and card strength, I was completely out matched ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคฃ. Would I be able to turn the tide of battle against such an opponent then? Victory or defeat would lie in the small details.

I would say that the Clay Golem was DEFINITELY the MVP of this match, having played it's role in turning the tide of battle. It did what it was supposed to do by tanking and holding it's ground (as impossible as that might have seemed, having to face such overwhelming better units) right at the forefront of the battlefield! All the while chipping off at the opponent bit by bit. This ensured that the other units could eventually wear down the opponent until victory was achieved! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

1st CARD SLOT

The Clay Golem takes the role of the Main Tank in the first slot here. It will be the most important role since the backline will fall if the Main Tank goes.

2nd CARD SLOT

The Crystal Werewolf fills this next slot. It's role is to debuff the opponent's magic units and further reduce the damage they're able to deal. It's SILENCE ability is what will enable this anti magic strategy. It also has a decent health pool and will take the place of the main tank as a secondary backup.

3rd CARD SLOT

The Divine Healer fills this 3rd slot for my team. It's job is to heal the Tank so that it can last the entire battle. Putting it in the middle here also keeps it safe.

4th CARD SLOT

The Venari Crystalsmith occupies the 4th slot. It's job is to heal the Tank so that it can last the entire battle. Putting it in the middle here also keeps it safe.

5th CARD SLOT

The Pelacor Arbalest occupies slot 5. It has very low health and is also a ranged unit, therefore it sits behind here protected. It's DOUBLE STRIKE ability allows it to deal massive damage to the enemy.

6th CARD SLOT

The Prismologist sits in the last spot. It's is also a ranged unit which deals very high damage and has the BLAST ability to make it even more devastating. It has some armour which will serve as protection against sneak attacks too.

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กBattle Action Report๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

syb clay golem 2.gif

As you can see, both of us fielded very different decks from different splinters.

๐ŸŒฑ EARTH ๐ŸŒฑ VS ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป LIFE ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป

My opponent used Grund as his main tank in the first slot which is an AMAZING choice, given how suitable he is as a tank. It also deals massive damage with its naturally high attack and the DOUBLE STRIKE ability. His Regal Peryton sat behind as the DPS and backup tank, while Wood Nymph and Goblin Psychic sat behind as double healers to beef up the tanks. His Goblin Thief sat protected behind with it's SNEAK attacks to hit my backline, whilst Kron the Undying sat in the last slot waiting like a ticking timebomb to be unleashed.

My choice of the Main Tank was the Clay Golem in the first slot, followed by the Crystal Werewolf in the second. The Crystal Werewolf would be my backup tank and also it's SILENCE would debuff all the opponent's magic attacks. The 3rd and 4th slots were occupied by my Divine Healer and Venari Crystalsmith. Just like my opponent, I too happened to run a double healer combination. The Pelecor Arbalest and Prismologist filled up slots 5 and 6 as my main DPS-ers.

The battle started out with all our units just duking it out pound for pound. It was quite a high mana ruleset with 46 mana as the limit. Both of us managed to fill out our teams hitting the limit or at least being really close to it.

  • The first wave surprisingly ended up with none of my units dying. My Clay Golem came REALLY close though, at one point of time being reduced to just 2 HP! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ All the anti magic strategies that I had planned nearly came undone with the enemy's double striking Grund who was purely melee.

  • This is where my team started to get a huge advantage. After surviving the initial onslaught, my round of DPS managed to kill off the opponent's Grund!

  • With the devastating melee damage gone, my Clay Golem had no problem taking all the magic damage the opponent could hurl at it, especially with double healers backing him up.

  • Putting the Prismologist at the last slot was a good choice as it manage to tank all the sneak attacks with it's extra armour and higher health (as compared to the Arbalest).

  • VOID and SILENCE combined together to devastating effect. My Tank, the Clay Golem, shrugged off the attacks completely, at times taking completely 0 damage.

  • It ended up with just his Kron the Undying facing my entire team, which was amazingly still completely intact! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ฏ

  • However, as we all know, the bedrock of the Llama Kron combo is when it is down to just the 2 of them. With LAST STAND coming into effect, it turns Kron into a super charged 1 man army! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The battle was still far from won. Many teams have gotten an entire team down to just Kron and ended up losing anyway. This is how strong Llama-Kron is.

  • Fortunately, my double healing team AND the extremely reduced magic damage taken by the Clay golem, combined with the huge dps from my Summoner Sloan and the 2 ranged DPS-ers meant I could out dps the opponent's Llama-Kron.

  • As it was, this was a long drawn out battle where my little bits of damage and the defensive tactics I adopted eventually brought me a victory! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Talk about doing WAY MORE than it was supposed to!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฅณ All I expected from the Clay Golem was for it to be a Tank. Yet, it did more than that, and lasted through the entire battle by absorbing every single attack while it was constantly healed thanks to the healers. It even dealt out a decent amount of damage on it's own through it's huge attack power. The battle ended up being a perfect battle with NONE of my units even suffering the slightest scratch! Surely that made it the Man of the Match for this battle, punching way above it's weight!

Well as you can see here in this GIF of my battle, the results were pretty good! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

This was truly an eye opener! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ†

Slowly, but surely, I wore down the opponent's team and the match was won handily with ALL of my units still left standing. It was a PERFECT VICTORY! My team selection proved to be the edge I needed to eventually overpower my opponent. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎHindsight is 20/20๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Would I have done anything differently? ๐Ÿค” This might have seemed like a match that would prove to be a challenge at the start because of the opponent's superior cards as compared to my team. However, with my PERFECT VICTORY with ZERO casualties, IF I had to use the same cards again, there would be no better lineup than what I had already used for the match. Any other combination MIGHT have resulted in a loss for me. I'm really satisfied with the results against such a worthy opponent. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡

Clay Golem.png

I definitely can appreciate the Clay Golem and it's strengths. This is one of those cards which are very strong if surrounded with the proper team. The role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

For any players looking to try out the Clay Golem, I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. ๐Ÿ˜‰
