Legionnaire Alvar is a great neutral tank! With high shield and health, he fits together nicely with every splinter. The only drawback is that he is a bit slow, so I avoid putting him in the first position. I either wait for an appropriate ruleset (Melee Mayhem, Super Sneak or Equal Opportunity) or team Alvar up with Possibilus (Reach and Trample), so that he can fire from the second position. The battle I have chosen to show you today is a Possibilus/Alvar combo, which worked out quite well.

In this battle, I chose to work with powerful archers, such as Axemaster, to use the scatter shot ability to the fullest and protect them from enemy fire with Coeurl Lurker and Wave Brood. Legionnaire Alvar is also well protected in this manner and can use all his shield once shifting to fight in first position.

As you can see, this strategy worked out quite well to remedy Alvar’s low speed. The scatter shots hit the right enemy monsters and my opponent almost guaranteed my victory by placing inactive tanks in second and third positions, just waiting to be wiped out.

I sometimes find Legionnaire Alvar difficult to place due to his low speed but in well thought out combo and stategy, he really comes out strong. In this battle he was able to hold the first position long enough to allow the archers to do maximum damage from behind and finally finish off the remaining enemy monsters. As a neutral tank, Alvar allows you to put together strong teams using all splinters (I prefer lining him up with Fire and Water).
