Let Me Reintroduce Myself - Hello Hive (and Splinterlands too!)

Hey everyone, I am bTeim, though you can read that as b-Teim, since in most games I'll go by Teim. Yes yes, that name was already taken on Hive. After having it mentioned by several other people on this platform (and notably some nudging from @cieliss) I finally decided to write my long overdue introduction post, and this is it! I'm in my mid 30s and living in the United States, currently on the west coast though I grew up in the 808 and spent a decent chunk of time in the Northeast. (This is clearly not an actual picture of me, but it is based on a real picture of me!)

Apologies for tagging more people in this post than I usually do, but I'd like to let some of the people I have met along my Splinterlands journey know that they have helped me out in some way, and give them the chance to get to know me a little better.

Outside of Splinterlands, I'll usually be out running, playing (way too much) Pokemon Go, or enjoying whichever random game I happen to have recently picked up (currently: Triangle Strategy). In addition to Pokemon, my gaming background includes a whole lot of Starcraft 2 and RTS in general, Magic the Gathering, and boardgames. I have also dabbled a bit in Hearthstone and Arknights.

I joined Splinterlands back in November, and after taking some time to figure out how to play and navigate the game economy have settled in to playing in the Silver league, at least for now. This is my first experience with both Play to Earn AND crypto, so you can imagine that I had a rather steep learning curve! The game design is pretty fun, and while it is (at least for for the time being, pre-land) relatively simple, I understand that being fun is relatively rare in the realm of P2E. And I really, really like the economy aspects of the game. In particular, playing Magic in the past has really made me appreciate being able to easily do things like rent cards out, or buy and sell them without having to worry about counterfeits.

In my Splinterlands-related spare time you can usually find me lurking in the general channel on discord, watching one of @clove71's tournament streams, or attempting to figure out how to best allocate guild brawl slots. On a related note, if anyone enjoys filling those pesky Gold Foil slots feel free to reach out, we'd love to have you 🤣 Oh, and on that subject - shout out to my two guildmates on Hive blog, @cherute and @ghostlybg!

My short term goals in Splinterlands are to get enough Collection Power to be able to stay in Silver III without renting. Longer term ones include even higher leagues, and beginning to stack up a pile of SPS. I'm not in a hurry though, I'm enjoying playing the game and making incremental gains!

For me, a gaming community is a big deal. When I played Starcraft I would organize mini-tournaments with me and my friends, and I became very involved in my Pokemon Go local community. So it is no surprise that one of my favorite things about Splinterlands is the community - the Splinterlands developers are the most accessible I have seen in any game I have ever played, and in my short time here I have met and interacted with a huge number of amazing players.

In addition to the previously mentioned guildies and clove, there are a whole lot of people who have helped me out in my time here, or have helped me to learn a little more about how things work. A big thank you to @cornavirus @sketchygamerguy @mondroid @drabs587 @ty2nicerva @ivarbjorn, and everyone else I have had the pleasure of interacting with over Hive, Twitch, or Splinterlands. It is not easy to get started and enter the crypto world for the first time, and having a solid community makes all the difference!

Thank you so much for reading all the way to the end. Interested in seeing some more of my writing in the future? Be sure to give me a follow! In the meantime, if you'd like to see some of my recent posts:
