My 2021 in Splinterlands: A Retrospective

avatar

As it is getting close to the new year, I thought it would be a good time to tale a look back at this year. It is a little bit of a stretch to say that this is a post looking back at my year in Splinterlands - I only started in October! But this is a retrospective on all 2.5 months of the time that I've been here.

Getting Started

In October, I read about Splinterlands in a Motley Fool article and decided to give it a try. Although I initially got confused(/stubborn) and tried to jump into ranked play using only the basic spellbook, I soon wised up and dropped a few more dollars in order to rent out some decent cards. With that, I was able to start earning and playing in earnest. On top of that, giveaways and advice from some of the (extremely!) kind members of the community allowed me to speed up my progress and get my feet under me.

Moving Up

After a rocky first season, I had two (in my opinion) successful seasons in Silver, being able to have a positive daily DEC flow as well as slowly accumulate CP via rewards chests and the occasional single card purchase.

I'm still very early in my Splinterlands journey, but it was great to be able to make some progress right from the start. Being able to get up to just over 1000 CP in my relatively short time playing here may just be peanuts to a lot of players who have been around for a while, but it's something that I'm pretty darn happy about.

Chaos Legion - A Bit of Turbulence

The release of Chaos Legion saw my account progression hit a bump. The ladder seems to have gotten significantly more difficult, and my current card collection is a bit underpowered as I'm waiting for the general sale of Chaos Legion in order to pick up packs and single cards. Progression has definitely slowed down significantly for now, but I am optimistic that things will get better once I (and everyone else!) will be able to get some of the new cards.

Also, in the meantime this is a great time to mention blogging. While my game earnings have taken quite a dip, blogging on Hive has been fairly rewarding, not to mention the fact that I have found that I really enjoy it! Decreased rewards from battles may have actually been a blessing in disguise, as it provided a great excuse to focus on making quality posts.

The Verdict on 2021

Though there were things that could have gone better I would consider this year to have been a big success, and a huge part of it is due to the Splinterlands community. A huge thank you to all of the community members who helped me out with their generosity and advice.

There are far too many names to list all of them here, but a few big shout outs to @clove71 @sketchygamerguy @unitqm @cornavirus @drabs587 @kotenoke , the general channel crew, and everyone else out there in the community for being wonderful human beings and making it such a joy to play, chat, and write about Splinterlands. Here's to everyone having a great 2022!

Good luck with your future battling and blogging!

I have a 3 year gap and today I kinda wish I did not have that gap in there. My old Splinterlands cards would be impossible for me to buy today. So holding on to those!

I just got all 3 of my kids Splinterlands accounts, one of them is ready for Silver League but will have to power up and get enough CP.

See you around!

Thank you! Sounds like your kids are set up for a great start :D I think that consistency is the key to making real progress here - sticking around for a long period of time and keeping on trying will maximize your gains. I bet you have some really juicy stuff sitting around, even if you did take an extended break!

I have 117 Alpha/Beta cards, not counting Beta Reward Cards

Yes indeed. The idea is to keep consistent and not procrastinate!
