Splinterlands season 75 highlights and an in depth look at the new rewards scheme

Quick Recap

I'm debating whether to start calling this season one as the new rewards scheme changed the way I approached the game in a tremendous way. I, as it seemed most other players I came across, withheld a strong opinion of the new scheme until a full season had passed. Well, a full season has passed and I think I have enough of a feel for the system to say I am a fan. The battles felt a bit tougher and my decrease in win percentage shows that to be true. That or I just didn't play well 🤷‍♂ I'll paint myself in a good light and say the competition was stiffer 😀

Silver 3 EOS Reward Chests Cards

The big question going into the new rewards scheme would be how the value and amount of rewards would actually play out. After a full season I see the biggest difference being the amount of DEC a was rewarded. Towards the end of the season the battle rewards seemed to level back to previous levels, however the DEC from chests seemed to be much higher. I had two days with over 100 DEC of rewards and my daily average was over 50 DEC. The change is so drastic I think I'm going to have to change how I display the graph on my EOS thumbnail. The DEC gains are skewing the scale so much that the wins and losses look like flat lines.

The other major change was how chests were rewarded. I found myself gaining roughly 3 chests a day, but the most exciting rewards were the 42 end of season chest. The most I have ever opened prior to this EOS is 18. It didn't take as long to open 42 chests as I expected 😀 I think I could have gained more daily chests, but I foucused on the EOS chests each day by playing the splinter that made the most sense for a win. I think by renting to obtain the best team possible for the daily focus splinter I could farm each to a higher potential, but I enjoy playing more with the cards I own. Perhaps I will test a few days next season with some focus specific rentals?

In addition to 17 new cards I also was rewarded 416 DEC. Nothing earth shattering, but I am not complaining. By DEC alone I was in the black last season 1087 DEC! The value of SPS has taken a beating, but the 24 SPS I gained from the airdrop would add $1.20 to the total. I actually sold 70 SPS this season and purchased two Chaos packs. I didn't pull anything crazy, but it was still fun to cash out some profits.

Last Seasons Goal

I gave myself two options to reach for last season, I ended up going with option one:

✅ 1️⃣ Level up Kelya to level three

OR

❌ 2️⃣ Purchase Quix and Carnage Titan

I ended up renting Quix and Titan for the entire season. I really like having both cards, but I didn't end up using them as much as I do Kelya. For this reason I opted to level Kelya up to level three as I felt I would be getting more return for my investment. I'm going to continue to rent copies of Quix and Titan and see if I can get more comfortable with using them before I make the leap into purchasing. I just upgraded Kelya yesterday so the jury is still out how much of a boost I will gain, but I'm excited to get out on the battlefield and test her out.

Looking to Next Season

I had all intentions of rolling which ever goal I choose not to pursue last season into this season, but after testing out Quix and Titan through the rental market I am going to hold off on purchasing them. I really like both cards, but there are some other options that will bring me more wins that I should purchase first. I'm going to again give myself two options and I believe that either are within my reach. Early this new season the Chaos summoners seem to have been put on sale. I'm guessing a lot of reward packs were opened and summoners were dumped on the market? Whatever the reason I'm going to take the sale opportunity and try and level up another Chaos summoner.

1️⃣ Level up Sloan to level three

OR

2️⃣ Level up Thaddius to level three

For either option I need nine of each. They are both currently selling for under $2 a card so it will be a roughly $20 investment. I'm leaning towards Sloan because Life is my weakest splinter and I have some plays in mind that become possible with Sloan at level three. However I'm finally starting to find a groove with Death and have some thoughts why that might be the best investment as well?

My Favorite Battle From Last Season

Beating Llama

I always enjoy beating Llama, but this battle was particularly enjoyable as my opponents last card standing Furious Chicken which could do me no harm 😀

Wrap Up

It was a fun season and nice to see so much chatter from other players enjoying and getting used to the new system. I'm not looking forward to the next few days fighting my way back into Silver, but overall I think the new reward system is a winner. I'm excited to step up my game and see if I can raise my level of play to the stiffer competition and hopefully take home some more chests for my efforts.
