Splinterlands Dragon challenge

(Edited)

This week's share your battle challenge involves using cards from the region of
Draykh-Nahka.

These cards belong to the high end spectrum of the game and many of them are legendary.

Most of them are able to fly and their breath is terrifying.

Without further ado let's look into it!

Theme: Dragons

Dragons are mostly cards from the beta and promo series. This and the game's overall rise in popularity has contributed to their meteoric in prices.

Usually they require a higher a mana consumption in comparison to other splinters.

This drawback is more than compensated with their unique feature, when choosing a dragon summoner you are able to choose cards from another splinter.

Thus you are able to choose from Dragon, neutral and another splinter

With few notable exceptions dragons are a great choice when it comes to choosing a splinter for a battle, with some of these exceptions being Yodin Zaku, Mylor Crowling and the Llama.

Their ability to fly can be helpful for rulesets with earthquake.

Dragon summoners also contribute to this feature with the only Summoner being able to grant the flying to the whole team: Brighton Bloom.

Other interesting summoners are Kretch Tallevor who is great for fights with the silenced summoner ruleset and Delwyn Dragonscale, the only Common summoner so far in the game.

Where NOT to use

  • Matches with Low mana cap
  • Slow Speed

Usually the dragon splinter comes at a disadvantage with low mana matches due to their high mana cost.

Another common trait of the dragons is their high speed. Thus users should reconsider using dragons for matches with the slow speed ruleset.

Other than that they usually don't have any disadvantages, unless we're talking about countering powerful summoners, such as the Llama and Yodin Zaku.

Where to use

  • Matches with high mana cap
  • Earthquake

Dragons are pretty versatile due to the fact, that they let users choose between more cards.

If we look at the available dragon cards it is evident that the flying ability has a big representation.

It can be said that dragons are a great choice for matches with earthquake.

Their high speed also increases their likelihood to dodge attacks, which is also very useful for this ruleset.

The Battle

This Battle took place in a tournament.

It involves the ruleset of "Spreading Fury" and "Equalizer" and a mana cap of 32.

For this battle I brought a Daria Dragonscale at level 2 (bronze highest level), whereas my rival used Mimosa Nightshade at level 1 (bronze highest level) as a summoner.

My Lineup

  1. Dark Ha'On: The tank. It isn't advisable to use a card with high hitpoints on Equalizer. It is very useful for spreading fury though.

  2. Creeping Ooze: The second tank. It slows my rival's attacks thus helping me land more hits and evade.

  3. Ancient Lich: Cards with Life Leech end up becoming huge tanks on Equalizer.

  4. Black Dragon: The dragon of the week. This dragon does the same thing as the Lich thus creating an ever bigger wall for this battle.

  5. Undead Archer: Great asset against cards that can heal

  6. Halfling Alchemist: It is a great counter against cards that are enraged as it nullifies their bonus attack.

This battle was decided by the tanks!

The Dark Ha'On was able to evade many attacks due to its flying ability and its boosted speed while being able to attack with 5 damage.

Even though it was taken down rather quickly by unlikely attacks it was able to survive for a long time.

This gave time to my Alchemist to basically nullify my Rival's whole boosted melee damage.

My Rival's choice of Mimosa Nightshade as a summoner was a great decision as the bulk of my attacks consisted of magic damage.

Even though my firepower was undermined the defensive structure that I came up with proved too much for my rival's cards.

In the end my card's hitpoints reached 32. Something you wouldn't normally see on bronze. This was mostly because my rival's Soulstorm was too fast due to being enraged, thus only my black dragon was able to hit it.

This battle shows how important adapting to a ruleset can be.

Cards with Flying are a pain to deal with it when enraged. Cards with life leech end up becoming huge tanks on Equalizer. And finally affliction and halving can be used as counters within the equalizer and spreading fury ruleset respectively.

See you in the Battlefield!
