SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! DEFENDER OF TRUTH

avatar

Hello! For this week I'd like to share my weekly battle showcasing Defender of Truth's utility at Level 1 in the Bronze / Silver 3 League.

Defender of Truth is a little underwhelming at Level 1, but it really shines in specific rulesets, especially in Back to Basics and Little League. Given its overall stats, the card is just really well balanced for its mana cost.

Ruleset & Strategy

For this particular battle, we're looking at Back to Basics and Little League. A couple things to consider why I wanted to use the Life Splinter instead of my go-to Death Splinter with Contessa:

  1. I had a Life Quest and I needed one more win.
  2. I had a Life Quest and I needed one more win, even if it means losing 200 rating.
PositionMonsterReason
SLorna Shine image.pngLorna Shine's Divine Shield Ability will block magic attacks, and I was expecting some magic to be used by the opponent's lineup. Plus, 2 of my units already had +1 armor, so the Divine Shield will act as a second layer of defense.
1Crystal Jaguar image.pngFor Little League, Crystal Jaguar is a pretty solid tank for those just playing with the starter cards in the Life Splinter.
2Furious Chicken image.pngI put the Chicken in the 2nd position because in Back To Basics, it really just serves as a meat shield before the opponent gets to my backline. Also, with Divine Shield in play, it'll tank at least two hits.
3Defender of Truth image.pngDefender of Truth is gonna act as an all-around monster in this position. It can deal 1 Magic, while protecting against 3 hits (1 Divine Shield, 1 Armor and 3 HP).
4Enchanted Pixie image.pngI put Enchanted Pixie here as a second source of magic damage. Although she's fragile at 1 HP, the accuracy of magic damage helps her get through any armored monsters.
5Peacebringer image.pngRounding out the team would be Peacebringer. For 4 mana, it is well stacked with damage, HP and speed.

Round 1

Honestly, I wasn't expecting a Neb Seni summoner, much less with an Earth team. In any case, I slight panicked when I saw Failed Summoner in front, but then I remembered it was Back to Basics. Failed Summoner is still a solid meat shield, regardless, but I would get through that without too much trouble.

Round 2

image.png

After the first volley of attacks, I've gotten their Failed Summoner to 1 HP while my Crystal Jaguar is still at 3HP. After taking out their tank, Earth Elemental wouldn't be able to hit from the frontlines, saving me 1 range damage. I have a bit of an advantage at this point and I'm feeling pretty confident with an incoming win.

Round 3

image.png

I normally would be worried about having the chicken as a tank, but having a Divine Shield protects it from 2 incoming attacks. By that time I would get rid of the Earth Elemental and put Centaur up in front, saving me from another 1 attack.

Round 4

At this point Defender of Truth is now upfront, and can show the opponents what he's made of.

Round 5 / Cleanup

Child of the Forest will get another hit off because of its Speed advantage, but the rest of the team cleans up the opponent. GG.

Final Thoughts

At Level 1, Defender of Truth is a little underwhelming, but it really shines when it gets to Level 2 (2 Magic Damage) and Level 3 (gets the Protect Ability). I have used Defender of Truth in Gold matches and most of the time the extra armor will make the difference between a win and a loss. Similar to Venari Wavesmith, this is a staple in a lot of low mana Life Magic teams.

I sincerely hope this helps you enjoy the game more and appreciate its depth and strategy. 😁

Good luck, and may your rewards chests always contain gold foil legendaries.
