Share your Battle: Gem Meteor Edition [EN - ESP]
This week's challenge features a card that, to be honest, I have never used in my battles. And it's more than a year of playing Splinterlands... Gem Meteor is one of those cards in the neutral deck that are "hidden" and that you hardly see in your battles in the opponent's lineup That's why, as is my case, it's a card that goes unnoticed and that you hardly know of its existence. So I'm taking advantage of this week's challenge to analyse Gem Meteor and find out if it's worth including in my collection. Let's get started.
El reto de esta semana tiene como protagonista una carta que, siendo sincero, no he utilizado jamás en mis batallas. Y es más de un año jugando Splinterlands... Gem Meteor es una de esas cartas del mazo neutral que están "escondidas" y que apenas ves en tus batallas en la alineación rival. Es por ello que, como es mi caso, es una carta que pasa desapercibida y que apenas sabes de su existencia. Así que aprovecho el reto de esta semana para analizar a Gem Meteor y descubrir así si merece la pena incluirla en mi colección. Comenzamos.
GEM METEOR
THE CARD
Gem Meteor is an epic rarity card, Chaos Legion edition and belongs to the neutral deck which gives it an advantage in that it can be used in any deck in the game. It has a ranged attack and a very high speed that can cause a lot of misses in opponent's attacks against it.
Gem Meteor es una carta de rareza épica, edición Chaos Legion y perteneciente al mazo neutral lo que le otorga un punto de ventaja al poder ser utilizada en cualquier mazo del juego. Cuenta con ataque a distancia y una velocidad altísima que puede provocar muchos fallos en los ataques rivales que se dirijan contra ella.
As for the special abilities in its first level it already has Scattershot, an ability that gives me contradictory feelings because its characteristic is that it attacks a randomly chosen card every turn. This can be great when you're facing decks that have well-protected cards that you need to get rid of as soon as possible, but because its attacks are random they may never attack the specific card you need to get rid of. Also, at level 5 he gains Piercing which causes the excess attack produced by attacking a shielded card to damage that card's health. That is, if Gem Meteor attacks a card with one point of shield with 4 attack points, it will destroy its shield and do three points of damage to that card's health. A very interesting ability.
En cuanto a las habilidades especiales en su primer nivel cuenta ya con Scattershot una habilidad que me produce sensaciones contradictorias y es que su característica es que ataca cada turno a una carta elegida al azar. Lo cual puede ser muy bueno cuando te enfrentas a mazos que tienen cartas bien protegidas y que necesitas eliminar cuanto antes pero al ser sus ataques aleatorios quizá nunca ataquen a la carta específica que necesitas eliminar. Además, en el nivel 5 gana Piercing que provoca que el exceso de ataque producido al atacar una carta con escudo pasa a dañar la salud de dicha carta. Es decir, si Gem Meteor ataca con 4 puntos de ataque a una carta con un punto de escudo destruirá su escudo y hará tres puntos de daño a la salud de esa carta. Una habilidad muy interesante.
GEM METEOR'S STATS
As an epic card, Gem Meteor evolves from level 1 to level 6 and you will need 46 copies to max it out. As I said, it has a ranged attack that goes from 1 point of damage at level 1 to 4 at max level A very significant increase indeed. From 4 points of speed it goes up to 5 at its second level and as for life it remains unchanged at the initial five points. All this at a summoning cost of 5 mana points.
Como carta épica que es Gem Meteor su evolución pasa del nivel 1 al 6 y necesitarás 46 copias para maximizarla. Como ya he dicho, cuenta con ataque a distancia que pasa desde 1 punto de daño en su nivel 1 a los 4 que hace a su máximo nivel. Un aumento muy significativo sin duda. De los 4 puntos de velocidad sube hasta 5 ya en su segundo nivel y en cuanto a la vida esta permanece inalterable en los cinco puntos iniciales. Todo ello con un coste de invocación de 5 puntos de maná.
As far as price is concerned, a glance at the market already indicates why we hardly ever encounter Gem Meteor in our battles. At the time of writing you can buy a copy of Gem Meteor at level 1 for just $0.43, and if you want to rent it for $0.10 dec/day it is available. Very low prices for an epic card that brings 100 power points. A clear indication that its playability and usage is rather low and of little importance to the community.
En cuanto a su precio darle un vistazo al mercado ya nos indica el porqué apenas nos encontramos con Gem Meteor en nuestras batallas. En el momento de escribir este análisis puedes comprar una copia de Gem Meteor a nivel 1 por tan solo 0,43 dólares. Y si la quieres alquilar en 0,10 dec/día la tienes disponible. Precios muy bajos para una carta épica y que aporta 100 puntos de poder. Indicativo claro de que su jugabilidad y uso es más bien escaso y de poca importancia para la comunidad.

THE BATTLE
The battle is going to measure me against @eeungt, who is going to field a green deck led by Obsidian with veteran Unicorn Mustang in the tank position as well as five other cards with magic attack including a healer and a magic attack reducer. As for me, I'm going to build with my water deck with Kelya Frendul at level 4 and I'm going to put Gem Meteor at the bottom of the lineup to see how it performs.
La batalla me va a medir al jugador @eeungt que va a formar con un mazo verde liderado por Obsidian y con el veterano Unicorn Mustang en la posición de tanque además de formar con otras cinco cartas con ataque mágico incluyendo un sanador y un reductor de ataque mágico. Por mi parte voy a formar con mi mazo de agua con Kelya Frendul a nivel 4 y voy a colocar a Gem Meteor en la última posición de la alineación para ver y analizar cuál es su rendimiento.

It was a very close battle until the moment I was able to eliminate his healer and the mushroom that reduced my magic attacks. Once they were eliminated, the game quickly swung to my victory. Gem Meteor delivered and dealt damage to those two cards making it easier for me to win which was the mission I had and what I think this card was designed for by the developers. An effective job by Gem Meteor.
Batalla muy igualada hasta el momento en el que pude eliminar a su sanador y la seta que reducía mis ataques mágicos. Una vez eliminados la partida se decantó rápidamente hacia mi victoria. Gem Meteor cumplió y causó daño a esas dos cartas por lo que hizo más fácil mi victoria que era la misión que tenía y para la que pienso que se diseñó esta carta por parte de los desarrolladores. Un trabajo efectivo por parte de Gem Meteor.
CONCLUSIONS
In order to value a card in its right measure, we must be clear about the role we want it to play in our line-ups. Is it a finisher, a defensive card, a card with an ability that gives us a qualitative advantage over the opponent? In the case of Gem Meteor, I see it as a very situational card whose playability is to try to direct its attacks towards damaging those well-defended opponent cards that cause us harm, such as Mushroon Seer in the example battle. In that sense Gem Meteor is a good card, obviously it's not a finisher that can give us a victory on its own, but it is a card that if its random attacks are directed at the card we're interested in, it's an asset to take into account. For all these reasons, I give it a rating of 6/10. Perhaps less than expected for a card of epic rarity, but it has clear playability and utility.
Para valorar una carta en su justa medida hay que tener claro que rol queremos que juegue en nuestras alineaciones. Es un finisher, una carta defensiva, una carta con una habilidad que nos proporciona una ventaja cualitativa sobre el rival... En el caso de Gem Meteor la veo como una carta muy situacional cuya jugabilidad es la de intentar que sus ataques se dirijan a dañar a esas cartas rivales bien defendidas y que nos causan un perjuicio como Mushroon Seer en la batalla de ejemplo. En ese sentido Gem Meteor cumple, evidentemente no es finisher que nos pueda dar una victoria por si solo, pero si es una carta que si sus ataques aleatorios se dirigen a la carta que nos interesa es una baza a tener en cuenta. Por todo ello, le otorgo una calificación de 6/10. Quizá menos de lo esperado para una carta de rareza épica pero tiene su jugabilidad y utilidad clara.
