Sept. 28, 21: Hive Fest, Early Teaching, Triangular Prime Proof, Garage Putzing, Oculus, and Games
Up just after six again this morning and, though FitBit says I was twenty minutes short, I’m going to call it good. Didn’t really complete much other than teaching (well, and doing a proof - see below), but didn’t drag hardly at all.
I suppose there was one positive side to breaking my ten thousand steps per day streak, they fixed the count so it’s not off by four days anymore! I do have to admit, that did aggravate the hell out of me. Now my count and the trophy pictures agree! 😄
Pretty excited! This year’s Hivefest was announced and it’s going to be virtual again. 😁👍 I had a good time last time and really liked not having the hassle or expenses of travel as well as the ability to come and go as I pleased. Got registered right quick!
Had early teaching today, so quick did my usual morning routine, actually got my post pretty much done and scheduled, and got ready to go.
Was thinking on the way into work about how prime numbers are straight lines, and I realized that three is also a triangle.
Why is three a triangle? Because three is a triangle:
So are six, ten, fifteen, twenty-one,…
Four is not a triangle. Four is a square. Most people think four is a square because it’s two times two; no, four is a square because it’s a square!
Eight is a cube, not because it’s two times two times two, but because eight is a cube!!!
That got me wondering…are there any other primes that are also triangles? I thought it was probably impossible, but that’s not a proof. On the drive home from class I was able to work it out. Here is the proof that three is the only triangular prime:
Two is the oddest prime because it’s even. Three is the second oddest prime because it’s a triangle.
As I’ve thought more about it, six is a triangle, but it’s also a rectangle (2 * 3)…seems like there should be infinitely many such numbers; yet another challenge. 🤓
It is certain that there are infinitely many triangular numbers that are squares…but that’s sort of cheating. Not entirely sure if it’s worth the effort to show or not…thinking it might be super rough.
I Expect You to Die 2 is out now for Oculus. I had fun playing the first one, so it’s basically inevitable that I’ll end up getting this one. For now, though, wrestling with myself having not finished Star Wars (glitched) or Walking Dead, so I played Walking Dead until it started to make me feel sick again.
Spent most of the afternoon (other than playing some more Walking Dead on the Oculus) out in the garage. Still just scraping at the engine with my dental tools and asking myself if I’m just wasting time. Yet, it is looking better, which gives me some hope that the engine will rotate.
If I can avoid doing the whole valve job, I’d really like to, but I need to get the head off either way to better assess what’s going on.
Been scraping at that seized bolt and hitting it with penetrating oil over and over for the last few weeks. I still hadn’t bothered to try and turn it yet. Today I did. Still nothing. 😭🤬 Finally broke down and tried fire.
Used a small propane torch to heat the bolt and let it cool down several times, hit it with some more oil, and STILL nothing. 😭 Fucking hate this bolt. Even once I get it out, probably going to be yet another problem to get the distributor out and then yet another problem to get the head off! Hard not to get discouraged.
Wenche was gone for most of the evening, so grabbed some Braunschweiger on bread for dinner, played way too much Splinterlands, and then got ready for bed.
Sixty-four is sixty-one, of course, in dShitty land. I am nearly to .1 HIVE per day, though, so that’s something.
I can’t recall that I bothered to go in on CryptoBrewmaster at all today. I don’t know, at this point it’s hardly even an afterthought. I suppose I should sell the CBM that I can, get something for the time I’ve spent.
Went in to Rising Star several times today. Just doing lessons for now trying to get my Ego back down. Had a laugh, though. After buying the new cards I’ve lost like fifty positions on the leaderboard…near to six hundred now. Not seeing the point any more and losing my desire to mess with it…
I kinda’ debated with myself whether to play Splinterlands today or not. I would have rather just left it and not risked losing out of Diamond, but I couldn’t resist the daily with two days left.
Typical bullshit…one win left to be done with it and seven losses in a row! 🤬🤬🤬
One more loss and I would have been back out of Diamond, but I did get the last one. Ok rewards for all my trouble:
That’s it, though, for this season. Not playing on the last day. Forty chests it will be.
