Pelacor Arbalest Challenge #2 : Speed Does Matter

avatar

Pelacor Arbalests are armed with powerful crossbows enchanted to fire bolts at extremely long distances. They are trained to wield a crossbow in each hand and can fire both simultaneously with deadly accuracy.

Hi everyone, welcome back to my second Splinterlands weekly battle challenge for this week. This battle challenge is about Pelacor Arbalest, a Rare Rarity Life Element monster from Chaos Legion Edition which his stats are shown below:

I won't talk about the stat again, because I have done that in my previous battle challenge here:

SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! PELACOR ARBALEST

I won't be talking again about his pros and cons here, but it's more about getting the right thing for Pelacor Arbalest so he can perform (killing his targets) well. It's a pity I keep seeing people using General Sloan, bringing many great monsters in his team, but they don't perform well. So here some simple guidance how you should build your Range-focused team.

1. Numbers: Less than half

The nature of Range Monster is they can not attack on front line or tank position. That is why when they arrive at the front, it's a game over for you. It's not wise to too use many Range Monsters because most of the time you will end up losing by seeing those monsters stand still unable to attack.

If you have a 6 monsters team, maybe you should have maximum around half of your team, or 2-3 range monsters. More than this number, your team will be vulnerable of having bunch of range monsters can't attack and can't defend. Do not forget his means you might need to have 2 tanks or more.

2. Positioning: Get Your Arbalest In The middle

Not all range monsters are suitable on the backline position, unfortunately Pelacor Arbalest who has no armor and low health, is one ot them. We can not put him on the last position, because any sneak attackers can kill him instantly.

3. Speed: make sure he can hit

Unlike magic which can not miss, low speed might make your range attack misses it's target. This will be a major issue if you have Range monster(s) as your main damage dealer(s).

Battle Preparation

These were the second ruleset for my second battle challenge

image.png

  • EXPLOSIVE WEAPONRY ~ All Monsters have the Blast ability.
  • REVERSE SPEED ~ Monsters with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
  • 30 MANA

When I saw there were only 2 options which were Water of Life, I knew this would be battle of Life Element. No way people would pick Keyla during a Reverse Speed ruleset.

Regarding I am a Life Element fan and my winrate in using Life Element is above 65%, Everytime I find myself have to fight a Life element using Life Element too, I feel very confidence because I believe I would be less likely to lose.

So here was my line up that I could come up with:

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner+1 range damageChaos legion regular summoner for Life Element. I do not like this guy, but what can I do? LoL
Main TankDemoralizeOne of My favorite Reverse Speed ruleset Tank. He is slow, but he has Demoralize ability.
SecondSneakMy backup tank incase Disintegrator gets killed. I picked him over Uraeus due to health point
ThirdSneakSame function as Stich Leech, It's debate which one is better in term of defending against blast effect. I picked Leech over Uraeus, to hold magic blast damage
FourthDouble StrikeOur main actor for this week, I put him right in the middle
FifthTank HealOur only healer. I put her behind because she had better health point than Pelacor Arbalest
The LastnoneI needed her to be the first wall to hold sneak attacks

My Strategy were simple:

  1. Protect my Pelacor Arbalest and Let him kills as many opponent he can
  2. Try to move sooner/faster than my opponent

HERE COMES THE BATTLE!!!

If you want to see the battle directly, you can see it directly here:

It's a silver League Rank Battle of Life vs Life. I was using my Scholarship Account from Metanomy. It's a good one, full of max level of Chaos Legion monsters. I should have lose directly regarding my opponent came with a full level of Silver Deck, however I spotted a Time Mage in their team and I knew it's a big screw up. Let see how this would progress...

Round 1

image.png

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • My opponent had 4 melee damage, 2 magic damage and 10 range damage. Combined all they became 16 damage per turn. It's a massive one, especially we were having an Explosive Weaponary ruleset.
  • My team had 6 melee damage and 10 range damage and no magic damage. Combined both became 16 damage per turn also. These numbers said we faced each other with same firepower.
  • Both my opponent and I came with a built prepared team. We do not overcrowd our team with Range Monsters.

round 1.gif

  • We exchanged heavy damage and My Pelacor Arbalest made the first kill, wiped out both of their tank
  • They made a lucky shot, their Portal Spinner scatter shot landed on my arbalest and killed him directly.

Round 2

round 2.gif

  • This was the reason I named this post. Speed Does Matter. I had 4 monsters who made move first and they couldn't last this round. They all wiped out withoud retaliation.

Battle Discussion

There were few key points that both my opponent and I made in this battle:

  • We both agreed that Pelacor Arbalest was a good choice for delivering heavy damages and he could not be set on the last position. He used portal spinner on the last position, I used Xenith Archer.
  • We both agreed that speed mattered a lot. He used Time Mage to reduce my speed, which was the biggest blunder he made and caused him a lost.
  • 1 speed difference was all I needed. My opponent came stronger by having more level, but that 1 speed difference settled all. In the battles where both parties were equal, SPEED would determine the victor.
