SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE : Learning HOW Our Champion Build His Team

avatar

Welcome to my Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Social media challenge is a regular event held on HIVE BLOCKCHAIN which everyone share their thought about Splinterlands.

Last week I participated in GOLD MODERN LEAGUE SPLINTERLANDS OPEN, the first tournament using GHOST CARD, which everyone played using the same Monsters and Summoners Selection at their highest level. Their Tagline "SKILL RATHER THAN WEALTH DETERMINES THE VICTOR IN SPLINTERLANDS OPEN" really got into my mind and I decided to join in at any cost.

I ended up at rank #107, This proved that I was not a great Splinterlands player however I was very relief that atleast I was not one of the worst ones. So I can say now that I am on average level how a person can play Splinterlands well enough.

In this opportunity I will share two battles from OMG-SP2, a nobody dude who somehow won that tournament. He is a real deal, outstanding player, and these battles will tell you more about him

BATTLE #1 OMG-SP2 VS ALBEE

Albee is a famous top players whom we often, maybe precisely say we always, see on top tables of Leaderboards and Tournaments standing. Let see How this battles progresses

Round 1

image.png

  • This battle started by each parties buffed and debuffed monsters. OMG came with Kelya and Albee came with Deepswimmer.
  • OMG team had a combined 13 Magic Damage.
  • Albee Team had 8 Melee damage and 6 Magic Damage. combined all became 14 damage per turn.
  • Both party seemed to have equal power, so hard to tell which one would win.

  • This first round always be decisive one. Whoever lose their tank first, would have a bigger risk to lose the battle.
  • Somehow OMG-SP2 managed to kill Albee Coeurl Lurker first using massive magic attacks. Albee couldn't kill the Baakjira with his magic attacks
  • Albee Deep Lurker failed to hit the Albatross. This was the massive blow to his team, making up a big gap.

Round 2

albee2.gif

  • 13 Magic damage per turn with blast effect was too much for Albee team. Losing 2 of his monsters in this turn, Water Caller, Deep Luker
  • Meanwhile OMG-SP2 Baakjira withstood all the magic attacks on him.

Round 3

albee3.gif

  • Again 13 Magic damage per turn with blast effect was too much for Albee team. His team got wiped out
  • It's a perfect victory, nobody died on OMG-SP2 side

Battle Discussion: Why OMG-SP2 Won Perfectly

In general we can say Albee picked the wrong team. He went for magic and met Baakjira. I think that's not the case. What's great about OMG-SP2 here was that he dared himself to use Kelya, A RARE Summoner, instead of Legendary Summoner from Untamed Edition.

Frankly Speaking, I believe 99% players will go with Untamed Legendary Summoners or Chaos Legion Legendary Summoners when they have 45+ mana cap. This case was different with OMG-SP2, he chose the summoner which can gave him more mana to pick the META he wanted to have. That's the GREAT DECISION he had in this battle.

Eventhough the META was perfect to counter Albee's META, his decision to go with Kelya when he had 46 Mana cap is something that I would like to give two thumbup!!!

BATTLE #1 OMG-SP2 VS HELLSLASH

Battle Link: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sm_cmNtvwPwaew3rh4ynJR4

image.png

The same as Albee, Hellslash is a well known famous Leaderboard players on gold league. Everybody knows him, and of course avoiding him. let see what happen next:

Round 1

image.png

  • This battle started by each parties buffed and debuffed monsters. OMG came with Fernheart and Hellslash came with Kelya Frendul.
  • OMG team had 1 Melee Damage and 6 range damange, combined all became 7 Magic Damage.
  • Hellslash Team had 3 range damage and 1 Magic Damage. combined all became 4 damage per turn.
  • This was 14 manacap battle with Back To Basic Ruleset (Monsters lose all abilities.) It's far from easy to build a good team with these kind of rulesets

hellslash1.gif

  • In this battle, both party came with some feeder tanks.
  • OMG-SP2 lost his tank first, the fiend died easily. Meanwhile Hellslash team were better due to Armor from Kelya
  • The last move, OMG managed to kill Hellslash Chaos Agent too

Round 2

hellslash2.gif

  • This round, OMG turned the table around. His team killed hellslash Fiend.
  • Due to high health of Failed Summoner, he could survive this turn

Round 3

hellslash3.gif

  • Finally Hellslash took down the failed Summoner. Now it became 3 vs 4, giving advantages to hellslash team.
  • OMG-SP2 did many damages to Cruel Sentropod, it's just the shrimp had thick armor and absorbing all those damages.

Round 4

hellslash4.gif

  • This round OMG-SP2 killed the Sentropod, getting on equal ground again.

Round 5

hellslash5.gif

  • Again, this time hellslash got back on the advantages by killing OMG's child of forest

Round 6

hellslash6.gif

  • This was a fierce battle, OMG got back on equal ground by killing the pixies

Round 7

hellslash7.gif

  • Hellslash managed to kill acid shooter.1 vs 2 for hellslash advantage, however there was one big problem for him. OMG-SP2 team had close range ability

Round 8-end

hellslash8-end.gif

  • That one ability, close range made a big different here. Hellslash who was leading, could not do anything seeing his archers could not attack like what OMG's Xenith Monk doing. Good game

Battle Discussion: That Close Range ability made the win

You know what splintercards says about Back To Basic ruleset?

Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. Select monsters with high speed and choose a summoner that increases damage or defense against Magic or Ranged attacks. Lining up monsters in ascending order of their health is the way to go.

That's the fact. Whenever we have Back to Basic, what we have in our mind is whether to attack by adding magic attacks or range attacks, or to defense by adding armor or debuffing opponent damage such as using Quix and Thaddeus. Never come in my mind that having FERNHEART close range ability would be a solution.

However OMG-SP2 came up with this idea and won the battle. That's Insanely Genius
