Splinterlands - Share Your Battle - Mycelic Infantry

This article is my contribution to this week’s “Share your Battle” competition. I know that this week’s theme is the Wood Nymph. Unfortunately, I currently do not own one of these cards and this is the reason why I chose a different monster to talk about today. It is also a Earth Splinter monster but the complete opposite of the Wood Nymph. I will talk about the Mycelic Infantry, what makes this monster so cool and in which scenarios I like to play this card.

Mycelic Infantry

Let me tell you something about this absurdity of a monster. Already at level one it has 3 melee attack and 3 armor which very valuable. But not only that, additionally it has 7 health and one of the most useful abilities to a tank: the shield ability. There is an argument to be made that 8 mana is a lot but trust me this card is worth playing. With ongoing levels, this card gains health and melee attack, making it 5 melee attack and 10 health at the highest level which is 8. In addition to that, this card is playable for everybody which makes it interesting for the new players out there who are new to the game.

This is especially important for the new people that are not sure what to play in those games with a small mana cap. But wait a minute, didn’t I say that this card is costing 8 mana? Yes I did and I think that this card is one of the only cards you should play in these games. Let me elaborate: Not only is this card a beast and very hard to go through, but the shield ability is the key factor here. See, in the lower mana games, most of the player are going for monster quantity rather than quality. This means that they want to play more monsters than you. Unfortunately, this means that their monster will not hit hard because monsters with a low mana tier have very often not more than 2 melee damage. This means that this card will take fewer damage and makes it basically unbeaten against all these other small melee cards. In addition to that, I think that this card is a feasible card playing in very high mana cap games if it is at level 5. Usually, your opponents will have a tank that is costing 10 mana or more which makes the ability Giant killer very useful, because this monster than deals twice the damage to your opponents tank, but I digress. My main point are the lower mana cap battles.

The Team Around It

Well, with a monster that is costing 8 mana in a low mana battle this does not leave room for a lot of other cards to be played. But lets start of with the summoner. I usually chose the Wizard of Eastwood. The reason is that he is cheaper and because I am banking on a Melee battle at lower tier my opponent might have some armor that I want to get rid off. Additionally to that you have a variety of choice from a monster pool that has 2 mana or less. I am always choosing a monster that can attack from the second line to make sure that I can deal some extra damage. In the battle you are about to see I chose Khmer Princess as magic damage is always valuable.

The Battle

Like I mentioned before, the battle had a low mana requirement. Additionally to that Melee monster were allowed to attack from any position which does not give me any advantage. My opponent chose the dragon summoner with the death Splinter. Choosing the Wizard of Eastwood made me counter his summoner ability pretty well. Furthermore, he had one of my other favorite cards played: the Cursed Windeku. I like this card a lot because of its Thorns ability but having this massive tank with a Shield ability is too powerful for this card. As you will see, if you play through this battle, after I killed his tank I did not take any damage at all because of this amazing shield ability.

Needless to say that I won this battle without any doubt and I hope you will so too in the future. Hopefully, I could show you a new strategy to use in Splinterlands or think about. With that being said, I would be very interested to see what strategies you guys are using at low mana cap battles?
