Battle strategy is more valuable than high-level summoners and monsters.

Hi there! Garzug here.

Today I wanted to lay out some examples about cards and strategy.

We all know that higher-level cards make things easier. I, for one, would love to lay my hands on many cards that are not in my collection or are of low level. And I bet you would too.

It would have made my battles easier, and most likely, I would have a better win/loss ratio.

But I'm working with what I have. And that is where the magic happens. I must think more about what cards to use and how to counter the opponents' deck.

It doesn't work all the time, but often I get pretty close to beating an opponent that outclasses me heavily with their deck.

Of course, I'm in no way perfect. There are many mistakes along the way, but I'm learning as I go.

That's why in this post, I wanted to showcase some battles where the card placement and counters did more than higher-level cards.

Battle I

The first battle features the Kron + Llama combo, which, as you probably know, is quite deadly.

If that wasn't already enough, there was one more legendary monster on the table - Hydra.

It's a high damage card, which at the same time has good speed and self-healing ability.

Quite a lineup to beat.

Before the fight began, I inspected my opponents' previous battles and saw this duo pop up before.

Kron, in previous battles, was at the back of the deck, so I was counting on it also this time. That's why I decided to go with a bunch of sneak monsters.

On top of that, I also picked Owster Rotwell as my summoner. That was to put some extra pressure on Kron.

But the key card to this match was the Sand Worm. I was lucky to get a gold foil edition sometime back when the price was two times lower than right now. But a regular version will do just fine.

It's a card with the sneak ability and dishes out a lot of damage.

It was a very tight match, but in the end, with some nail-biting, I came out victorious.

The second battle ended up in a draw but is a perfect example where a better lineup can make a difference in the course of the match.

The battle itself came with two deadly rules:

  • Earthquake
  • Noxious Fumes

Both deal two damage. If you combine both in a single match, it can destroy a deck in just 1 round if you're not prepared.

Allowed splinters were:

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Light
  • Dragon

So I combined the best of two worlds - dragon + water.

I picked Brighton Bloom as my summoner. That was to counter the earthquake damage for my whole deck. So I only had to worry about the noxious fumes.

Luckily I had two monsters in water splinter that have self-healing ability. One is a melee attacker - Sea monster, while the other is a ranged card - Water elemental.

The only thing left to do was to pick other cards to fit in my lineup set their positions.

I knew for sure that my opponent will also go with this splinter. Inspection of previous battles revealed a nearly maxed water deck for the silver league.

I was at a disadvantage as I controlled only basic level cards while my opponent was armed to the teeth.

My only secret weapon was Halfling Alchemist, and I was hoping that he'll get off at least one shot so that opponents' Sea monster would be affected.

I was very close to the victory. But in the end, I came a bit short.

As you see, then often it's not about the card levels. It's how you use them. That's why don't be discouraged by the fact that you see an opponent with impressive lineups.

Often there is a way to beat them if you use your weapons right and carefully plan your lineup.
