SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! DRAGONS! - 24Jun2022

Dragons are a very unique splinter to play in Splinterlands. Rather than sticking to units of a single splinter, when you select Dragons you can select another splinter to work with Dragons. So lets said you select Dragons and then Water, it means you can use both Dragons and Water units in your battle setup.

This is a very powerful arrangement as it gives you far more flexibility in selecting your units.

Dragons have many powerful summoners and it will takes hours to go through every single one of them. For today I would only mention 2 of them, the siblings Daria and Delwyn Dragonscale.

Daria Dragonscale is an epic Dragon Summoner that gives +1 melee damage to all melee units under her command. This is fantastic as Dragon has the most number of melee units that has the Double Strike abilities for example the Carnage Titan and the new Dhampir Infiltrator. You then add in another splinter which also has unit with melee Double Strike or/and Inspire and you have a scary offensive lineup that will wipe out opponent in double quick time.

Unlike his sister, Delwyn Dragonscale strength lies in magic. He maybe just a common card but he gives all magic units under his command a +1 Magic damage. Dragons also has a lot of very powerful magic units like Gold Dragon and Chaos Dragon whose magic attacks have a blast effect damaging targeted unit and units next to the target. Combine it with Fire splinter where there are even more Magic blast damage and you have a Yodin with Magic blast lineup.

To show how to use Dragon, below is the details of a match I had using the Dragon summoner Daria Dragonscale with Water splinter as a backup. The battle restriction is:
Healed Out + Reverse Speed rulesets with a max mana limit of 40.

TEAM SETUP:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Daria Dragonscale4SummonerI was planning to use a Melee offensive setup so using Daria Dragonscale to get its +1 melee attack bonus to all my melee units.
Legionnaire Alvar91stChose Alvar as the tank because of its Void armor. This would help in case the opponent goes for magic lineup.
Demented Shark62ndDemented Shark gives Inspire and would give me another +1 Melee attack to all my melee damage.
Venari Wavesmith53rdVenari Wavesmith would give +2 shield to all my units. It will allow Alvar to survive longer.
Sand Worm94thMy main offensive unit. I putting up a number of sneak units to attack the opponent backline.
Dhampir Infiltrator45thThis is a new Dragon unit with Double Strike and Sneak. Although its base attack is only 1 but with my summoner and Demented Shark, I would push its attack to 3. With Double Strike it is now capable of dishing 6 damage per round. That is assuming the opponent didn't use a unit with Demoralize.
Uraeus36thAnother sneak unit to add hit the opponent backline.
Total Mana:40

Round 1:

round 1.jpg

My opponent went with a Earth splinter magic offensive lineup with Grund as the tank and with another back tank, Mycelic Slipspawn, serving to spread my attacks with its Taunt. My opponent also added Queen Mycelic to gain +2 shield for all his/her units. This is a bit troublesome as my lineup is melee so shield would block my attack first.

Round 2:

round 2.jpg

I was surprised my Alvar didn't survive through the first round. It has 10 shields and 6hp and got wrecked by the opponent attack so fast that even my Demented Shark lost its shield. Meanwhile I also did take out the opponent back tank and took the shield off the opponent's Grund.

Round 3:

round 3.jpg

I lost my Demented Shark pretty early in the round and got my melee attack drop by 1 here. But the dispatch off of the opponent Queen Mycelia by my Dragon unit Dhampir Infiltrator with the Double Strike was key as it instantly remove all the shields that was protecting the remaining magic units. And because of that, the opponent other magic unit, Magi of the Forest, quickly fell to my sneak unit as well.

Round 4:

round 4.jpg

Another opponent magic unit was quickly dispatched off after the start of round 3 and by the start of round 4, only 2 opponent units remained alive. Meanwhile I still have my 3 units alive including my Double Strike Dhampir Infiltrator.

End of Round 4:

round 4_end.jpg
The match end with Dhampir Infiltrator killing off the last opponent unit.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to combine the Dragon and Water units to create a powerful melee sneak lineup consisting of units with Inspire and Double Strike to hit at the opponent backline. It works very well except that the opponent has an almost equally powerful magic units and we all know magic ignore shields so outside of my Alvar, the rest of my units are quite vulnerable. Also the opponent used 2 tanks instead which made things even tougher for me. But my lineup still out damage the opponent.

CONCLUSION
Dragon is a very interesting splinter to play. Use it well and you usually will win the match. If you know what the opponent is going to throw at you, be it melee or magic or ranged, Dragon has a counter to it. The main issue is of course can you guess correctly what sort of lineup the opponent is going to put up. 😏
