SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! GEM METEOR

Alright, this share your battle challenge is really challenging for me in the sense that it makes me play a Monster I never really play - the Gem Meteor. Why is that you may ask? Well probably there are a few reasons for that but it's mostly due to the fact that I find it very hard to not pick a better option than the Gem Meteor in the limited space we have to place Monsters - there are only 6 slots available after all. Another reason is that I currently have it at level 3 and with its 2 base ranged attack it is not really competitive at all. It might be more useful if leveled to 5, however, that's not in my short-term card collection development plans.

Now before we get into the stats discussion of the Gem Meteor, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE

It looks like the only thing worse than a meteor is an actual living one, swinging shards at people, lol.

Alright, we've got some idea of what the Gem Meteor is, after glancing at its lore. Let us have a look at its stats and abilities at different key levels now.

image.png

  • At level 1 the Gem Meteor has 1 Ranged Attack, 4 Speed, 0 armor and 5 Health. It also starts off with the Scatter Shot (Ranged and Magic attacks hit a random enemy Monster) ability.
  • At level 3 it gains an additional Ranged Attack point for a total of 2 which makes it a bit more adequate as far as its damage is concerned.
  • At level 4 it gains one more Ranged Attack point for a total of 3. Now its attack is looking a lot better.
  • At level 5 it gains its second ability - Piercing (If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health)
  • Finally at level 6 it has 4 Ranged Attack, 5 Speed, 0 Armor and 5 Health. Its level 6 version could actually be playable in some niche cases.

Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the battle I have chosen to showcase.

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:

image.png

The rulesets for this battle are Close Range (Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles) and Equalizer (The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health.), and its mana restriction is a bit above average - 42. This means that I can work more freely with this amount of mana and not really pay attention to the Equalizer ruleset which is normally crucial when you can use a bunch of low health, low mana-cost Monsters. The available Splinters are Fire, Earth and Life Since I want to showcase the Gem Meteor, Sloan is the best summoner, I have, to do that as she enables the Ranged Attack line-ups in CL decks such as mine.

I have chosen to go with my level 3 Uriel as the main tank. I like it a lot due to its considerable armor amount and self-heal. The armor is especially useful when paired with Rathe, and makes me feel more confident that it can withstand a bit of a beating involving magic damage. Its other upside is that it has the Flying ability so that makes it 25% harder to hit (by ranged and melee attacks) which also could be huge.

The 2nd place in the line-up goes to the Time Mage. It is a Caster which is basically a must-have in most situations since at this current level it not only has Slow (which is one of the most important abilities in the game imho) but it also has Rust (reduced the armor of all enemy Monsters).

The 3rd spot is for Adelade Brightwing. This is another Monster I basically constantly use when using Rathe due to its ability to repair amor, paired with its ability to Resurrect a fallen ally (once per battle) which is also huge if the right friendly Monster gets to be revived. It also has Flying which is also really helpful as already mentioned.

The 4th spot goes to the Venari Crystalsmith. It is a great healer I often use when playing the Life Splinter. It is also nice that it benefits from Sloan's attack buff when paired with her. It is a really cheap reward card so it is a definite must-have for any player.

5th in the line-up is the Pecalor Arbalest. It is the damage powerhouse in this setup with its 2 shots per turn so I am hopeful that it will manage to shine.

Last and probably least is our protagonist this battle - the Gem Meteor. I have it here to protect the Pelacor Arbalest from any potential sneak action.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:
  • As I have already mentioned, the Summoner I have chosen for this battle is my go-to Summoner for Ranged Attack line-ups - Sloan. My opponent has chosen to go with Sloan as well but theirs is at level 4. That's great as far as I'm concerned cause my Monsters will be significantly more powerful in this upcoming almost mirror match as my Sloan is level 6 - maxed out for Gold league.

image.png

  • After 1 round, no Monster has perished yet. That's normal because there are a two tank heals on each side and one armor repair paired with Resurrect. However, as I've mentioned my Monsters are just superior to theirs.

image.png

  • At the start of Round 3 it is apparent that I am starting to gain control of the battlefield since the enemy Uriel has died, has been revived, and has been killed again, while mine is still alive and kicking.

image.png

  • Round 4 is here and my Uriel is still hanging in there while the enemy Adelaide is about to die.

image.png

  • Round 5 - my Uriel has finally died but has actually been revived so it refuses to leave the battlefield just yet - it is 1 Magic attack away from that at this point though.

image.png

  • Round 6 is here and all that's left for my team is to sweep under the rug the enemy left-overs.

image.png

  • Round 7 - the last survivor for the enemy team is about to capitulate.

The Gem Meteor is a playable Neutral Monster but I don't really think it can find much action in the current meta. It's currently valued at $0.50 per BCX, so it is actually the CL Epic Monster with lowest price which is quite telling. Of course being that cheap is great for people who feel that it could contribute to their line-ups and help them win more battles.
