Another week, another Share Your Battle Challenge. This time the Monster in the spotlight is quite versatile due to its very low-ish mana cost and Neutral status, namely the Venari Spellsmith. It is one of those magic attack Monsters you can throw in any mix (but its optimal use would be in a magic team) as long as you have 4 mana remaining and an open spot in your line-up.

Now before we get into the stats discussion of the Venari Spellsmith, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE

So, the Venari Spellsmiths have B.A.'s and M.A.'s in All Things Magic.😄 That definitely increases their chances of finding work quite drastically. If I were to choose between two spellcasters, I would definitely choose the one with higher education.

Alright, we've got some idea of what the Venari Spellsmith is, after glancing at its lore. Let us have a look at its stats and abilities at different key levels now.

image.png

  • At level 1 the Venari Spellsmith has 1 magic attack, 2 speed, 0 armor and 2 health. It also begins its military career with its signature ability - Dispel (when it hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects off of it).
  • At level 2 it gains an additional health point for a total of 3.
  • At level 4 it gains its second ability - Amplify (increases Magic Reflect, Return Fire and Thorns damage to all enemy Monsters by 1)
  • At level 6 it finally gains an additional magic attack point for a total of 2.
  • Finally maxed out at level 8 it has 2 ranged attack, 3 speed and 4 health. It actually also gets a third ability, which fits with its lore - Redemption (when it dies it does 1 damage to all enemy Monsters).

Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the battle I have chosen to showcase.

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>

  • The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:

image.png

The ruleset for this battle is Lost Legendaries (Legendary Monsters can't be used.) , and its mana restriction is a bit below average - 28. This means that it will be wiser if I allocate the mana budget more or less evenly among the Monsters I include in this battle. Since I want to showcase the Venari Spellsmith, Obsidian is the best summoner I have to do that as she enables the magic line-ups in CL decks such as mine (or the cards my Bronze alt has available in this case).

image.png

The 1st place in the line up is a Monster you can read about in one of my previous Share Your Battle blogs (link at the bottom), namely the Hill Giant. The Hill Giant is actually a tanky Monster I use a lot not only on my Bronze alt account but also on my Gold main. I really like to throw it in as a makeshift tank in magic line-ups due to its low mana cost and relatively decent health amount.

The 2nd place in the line-up goes to the Regal Peryton. This is probably one of my favorite casters not only as far as the Earth Splinter goes but across all splinters. Its Flying ability paired with 6 speed makes it a really hard to hit annoyance for the enemy team. I have it in the 2nd spot to serve as an off-tank if needed.

image.png

The 3rd place in the line-up goes to the Magi of Chaos. It is another neutral caster from the CL collection which is heavily used in all sorts of magic line-ups. It is very potent for its mana cost and only gets better the higher its level is.

image.png

The 4th spot goes to the Goblin Psychic. Again another blog star you can read about. It is my favorite healer in the game hands down due to its abilities. Affliction at level 5 and Silence at level 7 are abilities anyone would welcome in their line-up. But even at level 3 it does a great job. Its only drawback is its low Speed but that's the trade off one has to make.

5th in the line-up is the story's protagonist this week - the Venari Spellsmith. Ideally I would not play it in last spot as it is very vulnerable to Sneak attacks but since I can't play any Legendaries, I can't protect it by throwing in a fiend in the very back. It is what it is though and since it is the least important Monster in this line-up it will have to take one for the team.

It is time for a quick round by round analysis:

  • As I have already mentioned, the Summoner I have chosen for this battle is my go-to Summoner for magic line-ups - Obsidian. On the other hand my opponent has chosen to go with a level 1 Drake of Arnak. The Drake of Arnak could be quite annoying in Bronze League but thankfully the +1 Armor bonus it provides is not of a huge concern in this particular battle as I am relying heavily on magic attacks which ignore armor.

image.png

  • After 1 round, I have lost my Venari Spellsmith (as predicted) due to the fact that the enemy has 2 Sneak Monsters on their side, and they have not lost a single Monster yet but their Djinn Chwala is close to dying and so is my Hill Giant.

image.png

  • At the start of Round 3 it is obvious that my "magic power" has finally kicked in and I have also managed to take down some of the enemy's front line. However, the enemy is very close to taking down my Goblin Psychic so I am not out of the woods quite yet.

image.png

  • Round 4 and it is obviously that I am close to winning the battle despite it rough start I had.

image.png

  • Round 5 - All that is left for me to do is to take down the remaining enemy Monster which happens to be a ranged attack one, and as we know, ranged attack Monsters cannot attack from the tank spot unless the ruleset specifically allows it. So it currently poses 0 threat to me.

The Venari Spellsmith is a great Neutral Monster. It can be fit into any composition as long as you have that spare spot and at least 4 mana to spend on it. It's currently valued at $0.45 per BCX, so it is actually one of the CL Rare Monsters which manages to maintain a bit higher price, meaning people find it useful - that is not surprising at all, of course. Get your copies and stack its BCX to the appropriate level for the league you dwell in. 😎
