Splinterlands - Prismologist Share Your Battle Challenge

Headers-1 (2).png

Laying waste to those around them, the Prismologist uses light and movement to defeat their enemy. Shards of glass and light shatter, dealing extensive damage to those in its wake. With General Sloan leading the armies of Life, they are unstoppable.

Ruleset:

Fog of War:

fog-of-war.png

Monsters lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.

A good tank and a balanced line up of Magic and Ranged monsters is the trick to win in this ruleset. Use monsters with Opportunity. Keep your monsters in an ascending order of their HP.

Even Stevens:

Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles.

99 Mana!

This will be fun!

The Strategy

So the plan is to use Life and put my highest damage splinters at the rear of my line up and use a Time Mage to slow them down bringing the opponent closer to my speed. I plan to use serious firepower here.

Lineups

General Sloan - Summoner

General Sloan_lv1.png

General Sloan is one of the easiest summoner strategies to play and I aim to use Sloan to full effect. I will be stacking the archery damage in the hope to just blow past any armour they may have.

Shieldbearer - Tank

Shieldbearer_lv1.png
As my lineup has little physical armour, I will need to keep the opponent focused on the frontline. I am hoping to keep this card alive for as long as possible. By the time this card has been taken down, I should have worked through the opposing frontline... well here's hoping.

Time Mage - Support Mage

Time Mage_lv1.png
To aid the Pelacor Arbalest, as is common practise, I decided to go with a Time Mage in order to slow the opponent and bring them closer to my lineup's speed. I was thinking of adding another archery damage monster here but I felt that slowing the opponent was more important especially in the case of a likely Kelya Frendul summoner being in play. Doing so would ensure I have a higher chance to hit.

Supply Runner - Fast Tank/ backline

Supply Runner_lv1.png
A superb card all around and in this situation, I am glad to have it available. The 3 speed is excellent the 4 health make it a good rear line ranged attacker, but in my case, I'll be using the higher health of the Runner to act as the mini tank and with 3 speed, it'll deter any slower attackers from hitting the monsters behind it.

Mantoid - Ranger

Mantoid_lv1.png
The Mantoid was selected due to its high health and 2 base damage. I tend to forget about this card at times. But this is an excellent card especially when combined with General Sloan. It's snipe is typically very handy but in this case, I was selecting it for the higher health and the 2 damage.

Prismologist - Grenadier

Prismologist_lv1.png
The main card and in focus for the challenge. This to me, was the perfect situation to play the Prismologist. 8 cost is quite high for Chaos Legion but to be fair, the blast damage, 3 base damage and 2 armour is great to have in return. In my case here, I will be buffing this to 4 damage which will result in 2 blast damage to the adjacent monsters. The Time Mage will assist in ensuring this card hits more often and of course with blast, hitting the first monster will always blast to the next regardless of the second position's speed/ flying status.

Pelacor Arbalest - Big hitter

Pelacor Arbalest_lv1.png

This is one of the more dangerous cards in the lineup. I am aiming to take advantage of the double strike. One potential issue here is what a miss might do to the overall damage output. But for the price here mana wise - and combined with Sloan - this card will potentially put out 6 damage per turn.

Opposing Lineup:

Kelya Frendul - Summoner

Kelya Frendul_lv1.png
This is the summoner I was expecting to see. Bronze is full of Kelya spam so working around it's abilities is important to consider. Adding the Time Mage was important to reduce the opponents advantage against my ranged damage. A good choice of card here.

Diemonshark - Tank

Diemonshark_lv1.png
This is one of my most played cards in the water deck as a Bronze/ Silver player. Great speed, damage and trample what is not to love? The armour and health here is perfect tank for water. Add this alongside Kelya and it is quite a tricky card to deal with at times.

Magi of Chaos - Damage Mage

Magi of Chaos_lv1.png
A good card and one I need to pick up as well due to the 2 base damage and high health. This would be a good addition to my Obsidian deck. I think the opponent's lineup is crying out for a Djinn Oshannus to add high speed and magic damage. I think that would have been more useful than the Rune Crafter below or perhaps replacing the Magi and Coral Wraith for Oshannus and a 2 mana card of choice.

Deeplurker - Opportunist

Deeplurker_lv1.png

I am starting to love this card more every day. A superb common card and well worth levelling. A good choice and one I am concerned could do some damage to my lineup. It's high damage and good health make it a little bit of a nuisance and in addition, opportunity which will target my weakest health monster. This is the reason, I placed the Shieldbearer in the lineup. Hopefully, I can get to this card quickly.

Coral Wraith - Damage Mage

CoralWraith.f.png
This is a great card but without sneak, I feel it is a bit wasted and could have been replaced by an alternative such as the Kulu Swimhunter as it has the same amount of damage but higher health.

Sea Stalker - Hidden Sniper

Sea Stalker_lv1.png
I would have kept this card at the very back of the line up. With there being no sneak abilities available and it's camouflage ability, it would have been pretty safe at the back of the line up.

Rune Crafter - Armoured Archer

Rune Crafter_lv1.png

Due to the armour of this card, I'd be placing it further forward perhaps infront of the Coral Wraith to give it a little more protection. I do wonder if the opponent missed the ruleset but in all honesty, this is a very expensive card for 8 mana and I believe the Prismologist is much much better value.

The Battle:

Prismologist.gif

Overall my strategy worked and the opponent was overpowered from the start. For my opponent, I think there were a few small changes which could have improved their result.

Improvements

First, I'd look at using Djinn Oshannus in this battle to focus in on the magic damage. Magi of Chaos is a good card and it just needed some higher health back up. Placing the Sea Stalker at the very back of the line up would have helped to keep it safer for longer. Otherwise, I'd suggest they pay a bit closer attention to the ruleset as sneak was not possible so vulnerable cards could have been kept at the rear of the lineup.

Should you own Prismologist?

Yes! While it is situational, there are instances such as this brawl where it is an excellent option to utilise. I already own one and would like to own another for my second account.
