Splinterlands: My Gold Rewards Chests and Thoughts About Thane Newsong

Splinterlands rewards chests can be very kind or very cruel. Today's were so cruel I'm not even going to bother posting them (potion city.) Since I covered Zyriel yesterday I thought I might discuss Thane Newsong because he's actually a pretty good card and I'll re-post yesterday's gold chest rewards.

Many of these new epic cards coming out with no attack seemed a bit weird to me at first. That was until I figured out that you needed to place them next to a weapons training monster, like Ava the Undaunted in the Earth splinter for example. Sadly I have yet to get that lucky pull!

Thane Newsong is a pretty damn slow monster at two speed. He does come with inspire which can be helpful but Brownie also offers inspire at level four along with swiftness. So still kind of unimpressive. At level three he picks up strengthen increasing the health of your entire team. Then at five he picks up swiftness just like Brownie and at six headwinds to decrease ranged attack. Overall he is pretty good at higher levels.

My problem with him is the following: his inspire is great but comes with no attack and five mana. Even with swiftness he is eclipsing Brownie but not until level five, and Brownie is one mana. At level three he picks up strengthen but I can use the Wood Nymph at level six and get tank heal as well as strengthen. Now if he's place next to Ava the Undaunted or Drybone Raider he picks up some attack where he is actually somewhat more useful. Now if I could only score either of those legendary cards in my upcoming chests....

So Thane Newsong at higher levels combined with weapons training might be a pretty awesome card. Since I like playing at gold/diamond he's going to take a long time with some lucky chests to become usable in my battles.
