It's a nice swap feature but is this cheaper than going to the pools directly to swap?

It depends on the swap, but no, its not cheaper - there is an extra fee. I think the only reason people are using it is to maybe get an airdrop. In fact if the token is a reflection token, it taxes double so its better to avoid the swap.
