Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! COUNTERSPELL

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Counterspell rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is counterspell and rise of the commons. This means that all monsters will reflect magic and we are limited to common or rare cards. There is also 40 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, earth, or life splinter.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Kelya Frendul. In a match like this, I think that having +1 speed and armor is beneficial and my cards can be played at their highest level.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Kelya Frendul4Summoner+1 speed and armor
Diemonshark81stTrample and Enrage
Flying Squid72ndReach and backup tank
Demented Shark63rd+1 melee
Merdaali Guardian34thTank Heal
Swamp Spitter75thRepair
Pelacor Bandit36thSneak and Flying
Total Mana:38

My plan is just to have a lineup using a few tanky monsters up in front. Then I have my support monsters and damage dealers afterward. This gives me the highest chances of outlasting my opponent.

Round 1

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have the stronger lineup due to my support monsters. My damage dealers towards the back are also faster than my opponent so I don't think there will be any issue killing off my enemy. The only issue is that taunt monster because it will take a while to kill.

Round 2

round 2.png

I almost lost my Diemonshark in the first round and I haven't done enough damage against my opponent yet. So I was lucky but with this, my Diemonshark can also kill two monsters if he does not miss. If this lands (highly likely due to the speed difference), I should be able to win the match without too many issues.

Round 3

round 3.png
I did not miss and I was able to take out 3 monsters from my opponent's side. The support monsters negated any damage I took this round. The match is mine and I doubt my opponent can do much against me due to the tank heal and repair.

conclusion.png
With my Diemonshark attacking, I was able to take out the last two monsters and win the match.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The lineup I went for was able to deal massive amounts of damage and the support helped my Diemonshark live. The +1 armor was kind of useless but the +1 speed was definitely helpful against my opponent. It allowed me to be faster than my opponent and I think the armor was kind of useless due to the shatter from my opponent. I could repair that armor so it could negate one ranked or physical damage though. As for my opponent, I think he went with a solid summoner against the counterspell ruleset because he didn't take any damage from the magic reflect. He was just lacking the damage to finish me off.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play according to the ruleset.
