The Play2Earn Report - They Can't All Be Golden

avatar

Another work-week is coming to its end and it's time for another Play2Earn report. All things considered, I've had a somewhat mediocre week with no big stand outs. There was one huge new release this week with R-Planet which didn't really manage to impress me. There was also some drama on noise.cash because of the high transaction fees all those micro tips were creating. Luckily though, I've been moving my earnings to Nexo on a daily basis ever since I've joined, so it was a non-issue for me. Other than that, it was a pretty standard week with all numbers slowly but steadily going up which shows in the tokens I'm tracking:

TokenAmountIncrease
Hive6,645120
LEO7,228120
CTP9,681386
SPT62,1506,536
XTM5,358263

Nothing out of the ordinary but solid growth for all of them. Buying CTP has become pretty expensive with both Hive:USD and CTP:Hive pumping at the same time so for now I'm only getting small amounts whenever I have a good shot at it. Nevertheless, these numbers are pretty impressive if you look at the monetary value of these tokens - that's more than 100$ gained in a single week! It certainly feels like things are starting to add up in that regard.

As I've started to do some weeks ago, I'll only talk about games that I have actual news to share on, so next, let's have a look at these titles:

Splinterlands

I've done an article analyzing my last season a couple of days ago, so I won't go into any detail on that matter. In short, I've had another great season, made it to Champion I again but didn't manage to place in the top 50 - so all as it has been for a couple of seasons now. Other than that, I'm slowly improving my deck, buying a couple of new cards every week. This time around, I've decided to improve both my Death and Earth Splinters.

The Haunted Spirit has been a card I wanted to buy for a long time. It's a cheap anti magic tank with self heal and thus a perfect addition to my Death Splinter. Thus far, I only had the Lord of D as a tank and while he's an awesome card, he was a very bad pick against magic heavy opponents. The Haunted Spirit will give me more options moving forward, now I only need to learn when to pick which one.

The Earth Elemental is another addition to my heavy sustain nature deck. I love messing around with the Llama and 10 health (with Llama buff), self heal and 3 ranged attack for 3 mana is just a really strong play. He's also another great addition in the Noxious Fumes rule set which I just love playing in.

I'm not exactly sure where to go from here, I might be buying some more summoners next as these are giving a lot more options than I had initially considered. Having differet max level summoners for Fire and Dragon has already been a real game changer for me and I want that for my other Splinters as well.

In other news, I've just today realized that we have a super short season ahead of us. Because of February being so unreasonably short, the season is already going to end in 8 days - getting to Champion 1 in time will be super hard this season! I've just moved to Champion III today, so I need another 1000 rating in 8 days to get to Champion I. Fun times...

Finally, Splinterlands has finally launched its Wax bridge today which should help to bring in more people from Wax and is another huge step for the game!

R-Planet

Meh. I was pretty excited for the release of R-Planet this week. Maybe not because of the actual gameplay, but because I expected it to be another interesting addition to the Wax chain and, quite frankly, another way to generate passive income for me. Ultimately, it might still be just that, but personally, I really don't like the whole implementation they came up with. I've already did an article giving my first impression. Some days later, my interest in the whole thing has declined even more. I really feel like the whole concept is just missing something. Staking NFTs so you can create more NFTs that you stake so you can create even more NFTs? I just don't see how this is interesting.

Worst of all, the basic elements are really expensive, meaning you'll have to spend a lot of Aether to just do a single combination. I really don't want to know how many players just wasted their whole stack of Aether without receiving anything. I can hardly imagine these people ever coming back to the game after that experience. Surprisingly though, the value of Aether is somewhat stable so far and at the current rate of things, I'm earning 2 Wax per day without having to do anything for it. That's not much, but it's free money after all, so as long as R-Planet is around, I'll be there to dump my Aether every day.

eXode

Big news time from eXode this week! Some time next week (probably around Saturday or Sunday), there will be another playable demo available. But we are not only talking more feature complete scanning, we are talking actual colonization gameplay! Keep in mind that this will only be a demo, so we'll only see the first steps and it will still be rough around the edges. But it proves that things are getting close. Like real close. SUPER close! Colonization will be such a blast to play and while it certainly will take at least another month before we can really set out and build a permanent colony, just messing around with the initial gameplay will be super amazing!

I mean I'm obviously super biased on the whole thing, I have invested more than 2,000$ in the game. But I truly believe that eXode is going to be a completely different beast in terms of blockchain gaming. It's way more complex, more faceted, and hopefully way more entertaining than your usual crypto title. I'll keep you posted about everything happening for eXode in the next weeks and hopefully it won't be long until we all are building our colony on the other end of the universe!

Doctor Who Worlds Apart

Talking about titles I'm really looking forward to, I've made some nice progress with my Doctor Who collection. Thanks to the daily login bonus and some referral rewards, I've already managed to buy 4 booster packs and found some (hopefully) nice cards:

Untitled.png

Certainly not my favorite Doctors but what ever, they are of epic quality and I've even got 2 copies of Twelve already ;-) It will still be a long time until I'll be able to actually play with these cards, but until then I'll just keep accumulating. One thing is for sure, though, so far the game is right on track in terms of attention as they've managed to sell out their Tardis booster packs:

Untitled.png

These packs contained 10 random cards, just like the ones above, but with 2 speacial card frames only available from these packs. So people actually spent 20$ per card just so they have a different card frame. Talk about crazy fans. Anyway, this game is officially backed by the BBC and even though current Doctor Who is about as good as Star Trek Discovery (hint: it sucks!), the franchise still has a lot of fans. Just imagine what's going to happen if the BBC starts promoting the game on television! IMO these early cards have a huge chance of becoming really valuable over time, it's an opportunity you don't want to miss!

Conclusion

And that's all from me for today. Thank you all for reading and if you'd excuse me, I'm off to watch the new episode of Wandavision now ;-)

Going to try R-planet today. Just been busy with work. Maybe they should tokenize the NFT’s to earn tokens instead of more NFT’s. That way the endeavor can create income for players. Just an idea.

We'll see with what they come up with eventually - they seem to have a somewhat long road map laid out already, but there's almost zero information available on it.

What is nexo?

It's a service that pays interest on both fiat (8%) and crypto tokens (5%) - it's a great way to earn some interest on tokens you don't intent to use or move any time soon ;-)

I've been logging into Dr Who every day but don't see an option to buy cards with the ingame currency. Does that option only appear when you have enough? And . . . how much is enough? 😊

You need to add a booster pack to your cart and at checkout you can select "Pay with Pandalaks". The cheapest option is 2.99$ I think but that one has fixed cards. The "normal" packs are 4.99$.

WandaVision episode was nice, the show it's finally going somewhere. Blockchain gaming feels like blockchain staking lately.

It was, I love how they are really trying something different with it, although it's something you can only do once and I hope they are aware of it.
True on the staking - it feels more like gamified defi than anything else...

Wow! You were really missing these 2 great cards in SL. I really hate haunted sprit as opponent tank backed by corrupted Pegasus. Earth elemental is really become killer with Selenia sky and Prince R. Both are kind of very good addition.
