Pros & Cons

Cons.png
1. The Aimless Ruleset basically grant Scattershot ability to all cards. Scattershot randomize the targe for ranged and magic attack (but not melee attack). Among the Target Altering Abilities (please refer to my post here), Scattershot takes precedence over the others (such as Sneak, Opportunity, etc.); and would also bypass any Redirection Abilities (Taunt and Camouflage). Therefore, the ruleset will mess up all the established tactics, leaving all cards to attack solely by randomized result.1. Relying on random targeting would give unexpected result. The worst side, the card would deal unfocused attack wasting the damage dealt with no significant kills.
2. Regular attack will target the front-row, and then there are Snipe which target the non-melee other than front-row, Sneak which target the last-row, etc. But there's still a room where positions are untouched by those rules, and this ability provides the only chances to target it.

So here we have the battle experience with Aimless as the ruleset.

The battle has 13 mana cap, with Aimless ruleset, and Splinter limited to Earth, Death, and Dragon. For my formation, I used:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerDrake of Arnak14-----
1st RowCorpse Fiend101-2Melee1
2nd RowCursed Windeku169-3Melee2
3rd RowLife Sapper132-2Magic1
4th Row--------
5th Row--------
6th Row--------

My opponent formation:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerThaddius Brood14-----
1st RowCursed Windeku169-3Melee2
2nd RowVenari Marksrat132-1Ranged1
3rd Row--------
4th Row--------
5th Row--------
6th Row--------

This is not the type of battle we would expect Aimless ruleset to work very well. Scattershot only works for magic and ranged cards standing in the back-row position with at least 4 cards formation. And the opponent must deploy at least (in my opinion) 4 cards in their formation; which if not it might as well to use cards without the ability. And with 13 mana cap, its better to prioritize the mana for Tanker cards first. Based on common experience, my formation should have better chances of winning having supported by armor buff.

In the Round 1, Corpse Fiend and Life Sapper able to contribute 2 damage to opponent's Cursed Windeku. My own Cursed Windeku was lost in order, and didn't managed to dealt any blow eventhough it step up to the front-row. The assault come with a sacrifice on Corpse Fiend.

image.png

Starting on Round 2, both Cursed Windeku exchange blow and both sustain the Thorns damage. Life Sapper launch its Scatter attack and deal damage to Venari Marksrat.

Round 3 run again with both Cursed Windeku exchanges blow and sustain Thorns damage. Lucky things for Life Sapper to have Venari step-up to front-row and numbed from attacking. The rest of the battle is history.

CONCLUSION

Although the battle run short, I think this give us one example of how Scattershot can turn the tide of any battle. Life Sapper is the practical example. Life Sapper able to cast magic damage to hit Venari Marksrat which positioned in the second row (although alternatively this could be done using Snipe ability). If the attack managed to score kill on Venari Marksrat, it could save time form having to wait Cursed Windeku taken down. But still, I would avoid attacking Venari Marksrat, since its Martyr ability would only bring much bigger trouble.
