I see what you're saying, but with a good strategy, you don't need higher level cards. It's all about placement and being able to guess what summoner ability your opponent is going to use based off their previous battles.

Summoner card can make or break you. They give a buff to your whole team or an effect. Such as one of my favorite from Earth is Mylor Crowling which gives the Thorns effect. All of your creatures have Thorns. Any time one of your cards get hit with melee damage, the card attacking gets melee damage as well. Great defense against everything but Water splinter.
