A Noobs Tale in Splinterlands Part 3 What Cards do I buy ?

In this series I am going to talk about my journey in Splinterlands.I am a brand new player. One that has no history with this game and extremely limited experience with block chain games in general.Today I am going to speak directly about the advice that I received in regards to card purchases.

WHAT CARDS DO I BUY FIRST??

Common question that pretty much all of us have been going through is what cards do we buy first ? Heck I want to know what cards do I buy second third fourth and fifth as well!

For me it was two sources of information in regards to what to buy. The main one was by far the top players that were available on discord. @fighter4-freedom has a high level knowledge and my guild mates @almightymelon and @iviaxpow3r have been incredible resources as well!!

I have always purchased through the in game market even though I know there are multiple other ways to get cards. I don't fully understand these other two markets but I know rentals and additional deals can happen here. As I learn more, I will post about it. The images below will take you to these market sites! @peakmonsters and @monstermarket are both extremely viable options and I can't wait to make some posts in regards to their services.

If you want to use the in game market, you just find the icon at the top of your screen that says market and click on it. Multiple ways to sort the cards, but have I mentioned yet that there needs to be a search function?? THERE NEEDS TO BE A SEARCH FUNCTION FOR THE MARKET! OK I feel better, thanks!

The first thing @fighter4-freedom suggested was to go ahead and get the chicken and the ooze purchased right away. Please be aware that prices and stats change based off of level of the card and current market value.

The chicken is good as canon fodder especially at low levels, and the 1 cost ooze that slows I find myself using all of the time. The higher the star level the more attributes come as well.

If you click on the card itself it brings you to this screen. Then click on the stats tab, and you can see how many cards are needed and what happens as you level the card up. So to get to maxed level on the chicken it takes 115 cards at the current market price of $1.34

The other thing you can do is goto YouTube and look for good starter cards to purchase. I know I have spoken about him before but @sl-guides has a couple good tutorials on what you can buy.

@clove71 Also has a great buy and sell guide right here that was really quite helpful to me.

So one thing to note is that there is a different meta based off all of your current ranking. Low ranks have lower cards that are played, and also a different ruleset for cards. Novice tends not to bring any of the special game modes into play. Once you start hitting higher bronze and silver you start getting hit with lots of different game modes and cards ebb and flow based off of the particular ruleset. Also other players can see what you have played with for you last 5 games, so to cycle through summoners is probably a smart tactic.

The next few cards were advice from @almightymelon. He mentioned that I should look at a few green cards. I had already been looking at Yodin and just had a hard time deciding if I wanted to buy the most expensive card in the set. I went with Mylor as a green summoner for the thornmail attribute which has worked good for me in high bronze low silver.

I then went with some cards that would synergize with Mylor and Yodin. Since I knew I would have to push around who my summoner was at different times I knew I couldn't just focus on a single splinter/color. I also got some neutral cards that I could use with any summoner I needed. I focused on Chain Golem and Halfling Alchemist based on the advice of the Guild I was in and everyone talking about their favorite combos.

I find myself using Chain Golem often, it really works well in many instances. Halfling Alchemist has also been great because what I am seeing is that many people focus on Melee cards in the lower ranks and this reduces damage.

One thing I noticed extremely fast is you can drop cash in this game (especially with the IOS app) EXTREMELY fast. Watch your wallet closely or you will be in debt quick LOL and that's just for the 1star cards! I think I spent right around $100 in cards within the first couple days to be competitive and I could easily drop another $500 without even blinking.

Rental is an option and as soon as I understand it better I will definitely be needing to partake in that. There are a TON of strategies and it only changes as you rank up...so just be prepared for the journey...buy slowly and methodically and have a plan. Look at all the sites to be able to determine where you can get the best deal...and sometimes it's easy to use and fund vs better pricing.

That's my first experience and some of the first cards that I purchased and how I went about it. I will definitely be talking more about Meta and cards used in future posts. Hope you all enjoyed what cards I actually purchased first and how I made these choices. There are more cards I purchased that didn't make the blog, mainly ones that worked around Yodin and Mylor...but again that's for another day.
