Weekly Battle Challenge : Dragons
Hello everyone, hope you are fine. It has been quite some time since my last post. This week's battle challenge involves the use of the Dragon Splinter, which has recently become my favourite splinter after I acquired Delwyn Dragonscale! I feel the Dragon Splinter is a very underrated splinter with a lot of great monsters. Let's jump right into it then!
The Lineups
It was a 99 mana battle with rulesets being 'Spreading Fury' and 'Explosive Weaponry'- all monsters have 'Enrage' and 'Blast' abilities. My opponent went for the Fire Splinter and chose Malric Inferno as the summoner, rightly so, considering the rule set.
I wanted to experiment with a few dragon monsters I had rented, so I chose Delwyn Dragonscale as my summoner and chose the Death Splinter to help me out.
Did you know that Delwyn is Daria's twin brother?
Coming to the monsters themselves:
In the tank position, I placed Robo-Dragon Knight.
I anticipated a little that my opponent might go for a mainly melee attack setup because of the spreading fury rule set and I went for this monster with high armour and good attack strength. The void and divine shield abilities are nice too.
Next I placed Dragon Jumper and what a jumper he is. Look at that speed and attack. A perfect opportunity monster I would say.
Delwyn Dragonscale is one of a few summoners who gives +1 to the magic ability. Ancient Lich has 3 Magic Attack and 'Life Leech' ability. Made good sense to use this card with Delwyn.
I went for the Grim Reaper for the high attack of 3 and also for the 'Affliction' ability, in case my opponent chooses to use heal.
Twisted Jester is a good snipe monster in the Death Splinter who has high attack strength of 2 and a fast speed of 3. In any battle with 'Explosive Weaponry' ruleset, try to use as many snipe and opportunity monsters as possible!
Mantoid is a good neutral snipe ranged monster with a decent speed and good attack strength.
My opponent chose Living Lava, Fineas Rage, Sand Worm, Pyromancer,
Fire Elemental and Molten Ogre as part of his lineup. Pretty good lineup I would say, except for the Molten Ogre in the last position - kind of wasted there.
At the end of round one, both of us had lost 2 monsters each.
By the end of round 2, my opponent had his/her last man standing.
And it was pretty straight forward from there on.
I feel the key here was using Robo Dragon Knight with his high armour level and using snipe and opportunity monsters for additional damage to adjacent enemies.
I started using the Dragon Splinter a lot more after I acquired a Gold Foil Delwyn Dragonscale- he is a level 4 summoner. So, I rented a few Dragon Monsters and also some Gold foil cards from Earth Splinter like Rexxie, who has the Trample ability at level 4 itself, to use with the Dragon Splinter. It has been an enjoyable experience thus far. Also, Delwyn is a very good fit with the magic monsters of the Water Splinter.
Another Dragon Summoner I like to use is Brighton Bloom, especially in Earthquake battles - more on that in another post!
Here's a little piece I made when I first started using Procreate:
