To the top challenge... ch#1 spellbook loses its virginity

Hi there,

This will be Chapter 1 in what I will be uploading as a bi-weekly update as I attempt to see how far I grow my Deck starting from a base set of rules and hopefully impart lessons I have learnt, so that others don't follow my fuckups. Each chapter I'll focus on one element of the game and the specifics I have learnt from that (after an intro today)

The Rules

Pretty simple really, we have a $100 spend limit and want to see how far that will go.
Any further generation than that will be from the in game market

The beginning

The first step for me was YouTube to get some ideas on where to begin. This gave me the general idea that to begin you should target a few choice cards rather than grabbing some packs (though they are all sold out so I was forced into this route really). As such after putting my spell book I bought about $20 worth of recommended cards.
Next was just to jump in and to get a feel of how the games run .

First purchases

Here's my list of what i bought for $20-

The best purchase by far was Mylor, damn that summoner is strong. The next best was ooze. Having a useful 1 mana insert was just so valuable especially combined with being an extra body for Mylor. Wood nymph rounds it out, i just think heals are so powerful.

The bad was Vera and the wave runner, just didn't find any use for them. And learnt a lesson here too, you should rent cards for a day or two before you spend up, have to find out if you actually want it.

Some Lessons learnt;

Staking SPS- I didn't realize that my Dec earned was earning SPS (idiot I know-i thought you had to have a minimum amoutn to start, that was wrong indeed). Stake people!

Join the discord- plenty of useful information and potential to win some cards, why not?

Try hand at competitions- there are plenty of free handouts going around, Discord, Hive blog etc. I haven't one much yet, but you win nothing if your not in there.

Join a guild- Brawls, bonus dec %, there is no cost so just apply for some people if you haven't already! it dosn't cost you anything to ask and apply either.

Use peak monsters - such a handy tool for so many reasons

don't try and rent close to season end- prices can go crazy (though its a good chance to make some Dec if your happy to forgo some rewards)

Rewards and where I ended up

Here is how I've ended up afters playing the game for just over a month now; All I did was basically get my daily's done everyday, enter as many competitions as I could and make sure my capture rate never dropped to 100% (basically aimed for 15-20 wins a day)

This includes 3 season chests as I was playing for a few days before the resest. Got quite lucky getting a 2000Dec drop to kickstart my account, though what i want to spend on (packs) isnt available yet. I achieved a rating of just over 2000 (2043), which was basically due to Mylor + nymph which indicates my biggest hurdle moving forward is generating power, with 420 power I have no way to reach silver in an economic matter as it currently stands. I'll have to do some more planning on that front. Pretty stoked I got my first epic too on a random daily quest, pretty good one too

The future

Now I'm a bit more comfortable with the game, I just want to build up my power so I can reach Silver tear and get more daily rewards so I can increase my chance at getting lucky. To do this I realize I need 2 things short term; a decent lvl 2 summoner and a hit ton more power.

To do this I'm planning to spend $35 of my remaining budget I want to spend on new packs when they are out. Other than that I'm planning to just save my Dec for that moment compound some SPS and maybe buy a chicken. Thats my #1 card I want now. Or maybe upgrade Mylor but that seems a bit out of reach for the moment.

Regards
Loosestgoose

Hello, @loosestgoose! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive - congratulations and welcome! It would also be awesome if you could do an introduction post, so our community can get to know you better. For an example of what an intro post is like, you can check out this one by my friend & curation team member -

Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community.

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities . I see you already found Splinterlands, and you might be interested in the Hive Gaming Community as well.

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.

Please be aware that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog, so it is important not to include content that you don't own without sources (and it shouldn't exceed 50% of the post). For more information, check this post - Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise by hivewatchers.

Since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.

For now, @lovesniper will follow your account and we are looking forward to seeing your intro post. Also, please mention (also known as tagging) @traciyork & @lovesniper in your intro post in order for us to be notified, so we can consider your post for OCD curation. Lastly, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server if you have any questions!
