Vera, the underrated summoner

Vera Salacia is currently the cheapest regular foil summoner one can buy on the market, and the cheapest gold foil by market value. This is probably because its utility is very specific: to counter monsters with Flying ability. (It may also be because new players don't know when she's useful.) But I love playing her and while I own a level one Vera, I often rent a level 3 gold foil. Today I will share a battle which I really enjoyed winning.

Vera has a great synergy under the Earthquake ruleset - "Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round." - because most players will either populate their line up with flying monsters or use Brighton Bloom to give wings to all monsters in the line up. (There are other strategies, too - without flying or snare - but I won't go through them here.)

As Vera gives the Snare ability - "When attacking enemies with Flying, removes the Flying ability and cannot miss." - to all monsters she summons, she is able to remove the advantage flying monsters have under Earthquake.

For the Vera Salacia counter-strategy to work, one needs to build a distributed attack team: Sneak, Opportunity and Snipe abilities should be part of the line up to ensure that all flying monsters of the opponent are snared upon the first attack received. Furthermore, Vera's monster line up shall include monsters that will survive the Earthquake: the most obvious - but not only - way is by having monster(s) with Flying ability.

In this Golden 3 league battle with both Earthquake and Explosive Weaponry as rulesets, I won using this strategy. Note, however, that it is a very specific strategy that only works if the adversary adopts the Flying-under-Eartquake strategy (and of course dependent on other factors, too). But when it works, it is a sweet victory! So, seize the low price opportunity and grab a Vera for yourself!
