Lore

ARMORED THORAX, it's right there in the lore. Did they decide that armor on the Haunted Spider was just too much for 3 mana. I mean it probably would be but maybe up at level 8 or so? Anyhow, who are these Dark Eternals and why are they taking on a second form? What happened to their first form? @drabs587, oh lore specialist, what do you know about these Dark Eternals?

The second form of a Dark Eternal is determined by the state of the soul. Some of the more twisted souls take insect form, and the Haunted Spider is the favorite. The projectile venom and massive, armored thorax make the Haunted Spider a formidable (and intimidating) enemy in any battle.

Acquisition

As this is either an Alpha or Beta edition card you have 2, maybe 3 options. You can purchase it directly, you could trade for it, or you could make it rain by buying a Alpha or Beta pack. I suppose you could also rent it but I don't know enough about that to really speak to it.

We Want a Fight!

League: Gold 2
Rating: 2037
Ruleset: Weak Magic
Mana: 99
Splinters: Water, Death and Dragon

Starting Lineup:

SUMMONER: OWSTER ROTWELL. Everyone gets to Reflect Magic and for me this is my default summoner for Death. I love Mimosa but my Owster is at level 4 allowing me to take advantage of my monster's levels way better.

TANK: UNDEAD REXX
Moderately fast at 3 speed with great health (11), a massive attack at (5) but a hefty price tag at (9) mana. At lower levels I feel there are much better tanking choices on the death team but at level 5 it comes with Trample and sometimes you just want to see some serious violence.

2nd TANK:
THE GORLODON!
He's large, he hits really hard with a massive melee attack and with reach he is pretty great for the 2 spot. Definitely a great 2 spot if you cannot get an Undead Pegasus.

DAMAGE 1: ANCIENT LICH. Putting the Ancient Lich here was pretty risky as he would be target 1 for any Snipe monster but the remainder of the lineup dictated this position. Assuming he survives a round or two, behind the first two monsters here he should have plenty of time to do some serious damage and boost up his health with Life Leach.

DAMAGE 2 / UTILITY 1: HAUNTED SPIDER!
Here it is, our featured monster. She only gets 1 ability and not until level 4 but Poison is arguably one of the best abilities. Poison can totally be the difference maker especially up against a healer. Also with such a low mana cost she can be slotted into many lineups.

DAMAGE 3 / UTILITY 2: OCTOPIDER! Super high mana cost but totally worth it for solid ranged damage and her Demoralize ability. At higher levels she also gets the Blind ability. These two abilities can really be a difference maker. To sweeten the cake a bit more, 8 health really helps her stick around for a round or two minimum.

ALTERNATE TANK / DAMAGE 4 / UTILITY 3: DARK HA'ON!
This card has Taunt and Flying. By putting it at the back of the line it draws fire away from my tank which has no armor and since it has a decent speed plus flying comes with a pretty decent chance to dodge attacks and extend is utility in the match.

How it started:

2021-10-08_17h06_00.png

Not too worried about my opponent's lineup. I was a bit disappointed to waste reflect magic on this battle but as I said above I really needed his level to allow myself to get max monster levels out there. But with DH at the back at least I can keep the Halfling Alchemist from nerfing my Undead Rexx for a bit.

How it's going:

2021-10-08_17h11_31.png

In Round 1 Haunted Spider manages to get a poison on my opponent's tank. At the start of round 2, the poison hits and finishes off their tank allowing my monsters to save the 2 attacks and possibly thorns impact that it would take to eliminate the tank otherwise.

How it ended:

Haunted Spider manages to get a second and wholly unecessary poison on my opponent's Sand Worm. We skipped screenshots for that as with the fall of their tank victory was basically ensured.

LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM

Definitely a Death splinter favorite as it fits into so many lineups and poison is such a seriously advantageous ability at almost all levels.

This is a sick post man you crushed them. Yea the dark Eternals are sick here is an excerpt from splinterlore.

Dark Eternals are born in Mortis of living souls after they have shed their coils, provided they have signed the Dark Contract. The transition is never an easy one, and Dark Eternal Fledglings must be forcefully guided into discipline and submission. Though always eager for their new dark existence, these Fledglings are only a shadow of their former selves. The creatures that emerge from the Tar Pits of Creation are often speechless and mindless husks, but even as they rot they can be useful.

You can check it out in the Mortis section on the Splinterlore website
