Splinterlands - Focus Focus Focus...

(Edited)

Last day of the season and all who are playing Splinterlands must be focusing on their end of season reward chest targets. Pun intended. If you are wondering way one league we can earn so many reward chests while in another league we end up with less well its because of the equation below:

If you want to read directly of Splinterlands docs here is the link.

In today's post we will look at how season points collect and what leagues we play in effects how many reward chests we earn.

Focus Points, Season Points, R-Shares

If you ever hear someone say focus points, season points, or R-shares I can tell you right now they are interchangeable in value. 1 Focus point equals 1 season points and also equal to 1 R-shares. I am not sure why Splinterlands broke out the terminologies that means the same thing, but if I had to guess it is probably due to some programming that makes them separate between the values even though they are equals.

What we should be aware of here is each rank battle we win will yield a certain amount of R-shares. Those R-shares accumulated within a 24 hour period in total will be our focus points. Meanwhile R-shares accumulated within a season which can go from 12 - 17 days in total will be our season points.

Leagues Matter

Straight out of Splinterlands document site below is the chart and the respective reward types per each league chest.

Notice each higher league will have a chest that can potentially yield greater amount of rewards. Therefore the higher your league the better rewards you can potentially earn.

Specific to a season rewards you fall in the league where your prior season game play ended at. For example I ended last season at league diamond III so at the start of this current season I am going to earn diamond chests. However if last season I had ended at league gold I then I would have only earned gold chests for this season.

With higher rewards comes higher R-shares.

Chart above also from Splinterlands doc.

Notice in row one the average R-shares earned per each league win rises dramatically in higher leagues. This all coincides with higher R-shares needed to earn specific amount of reward chests. For example to earn 100 bronze chests a player needs to have 1,194,582 R-shares. Meanwhile 100 champion chests the player needs a staggering 26,372,915 R-shares, which is almost 26 times more than bronze league.

What League You Play Matters

The amount of R-shares needed matters a lot for end of season rewards. If we are playing out of our respective leagues we will likely yield a lot less at the end of the season. Let me show you my example.

Two seasons ago I ended in gold league when the season ended. The following season I would be playing for gold chests and was able to yield 52 season chests. That meant I collected around 2.25 million R-shares. However at the end of last season I ended at diamond league. Therefore this current season I am playing with diamond chests.

Although the diamond chests are higher in value than gold I am going to earn less season chests. That is because since last season to this current season I remain to earn around 2.25 million R-shares.

In fact I am currently just under 2 million which gets me only 28 diamond season chests.

Realize each of us earn around a specific amount of R-shares per a season will help us gauge into what league we should play in. For me in this season I was not a great fit in diamond since I barely strung enough R-shares to get to only 28 chests when in gold I could have had 50. On the flip side I would have better odds in pulling bigger rewards with the diamond chests, but will it be worth it compare to almost double the amount of chests in gold league.

Conclusions

Pay careful attention to which league you play in for it will set you up for how many chests you will be able to earn for end of season rewards. As everyone knows at the beginning of every new season our ranks get rested one league below where we end up, however if we never approve the raise in league during the season we can maintain end of season rewards at a specific league.

For instance in my case if I had stayed in gold at the end of last season I would currently be earning R-shares towards season gold chests and would have 50 or more to open at end of this season. Instead I accepted to go to diamond league and will end up getting half the reward chests at end of season. Pick my poison.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

Stunning read, I believe Silver III is currently the most difficult place to earn a chest and sometimes it feels like it is easier to earn a chest in bronze howbeit, it might the value might make no sense at all. It's quite lucrative in the gold league if you ask me

It's a tough choice and that is why I stick in Silver until the last day or two. Having more chests and worrying less about fights is what I have chosen. I did stop half-way to my next season reward focus as I didn't want to drop out of Gold I though.

As a matter of fact the end of the season is determining your success in the next season. If you manage to just get into the higher league, you may have some difficulties in collecting the according chests in the next season. Great post!

Excellent writing there about FP, SP, and Rshares. This will clear doubts of many about these terms.
Choosing whether to promote to the Diamond or to remain in the Gold league is really a tough decision.
Sometimes when you get less valuable rewards from the Diamond chests than the Gold chests in terms of quantity and quality (yes, it does happen to me), you want to blame yourself for not being in the Gold league in the past season.
But that's not really in our hands what the outcome will be from the EOS reward chests.
