Splinterlands - Getting Some Skin In The Game?
Splinterlands in game card packs have been sold out for weeks. As of now in game there are only two types of assets available for purchase in game. One is potions and second is skin cards. The latter is what we will focus on today's post.
Splinterstorm
When alpha and beta cards were introduced not long after there was also Splinterland skin cards. These skins are limited in quantities and are more detail images of the standard alpha/beta cards.
Image above is an example of summoner Lyanna Natura. The images on the left are standard default of the card but when I purchased the skin it will automatically change to the image on the right. Although not the best example you can see the difference in features between the two where the one on the right is more appealing due to its accurate details and colors.
At the inception of the skins there were no actual benefits of purchasing them other than to have a different visual appearance to the cards themselves. However today owning skins will boost owner's collection points for earning more daily SPS. In fact each rarity skin has a specific amount of collector's point.
Rarity | Airdrop Points |
---|---|
Common | 1,000 |
Rare | 2,500 |
Epic | 5,000 |
Legend | 10,000 |
The skins can only be purchase via DEC and there is a 50% off the price if you buy in bulk. Unfortunately as of now the Legend and Epic sets are sold out so you can not get 50% for purchase of those but there are still plenty of Common and Rare sets. Commons run at 22,800 DEC for 24 skins and Rares run at 54,150 DEC for 23 skins. Note a quick arithmetic results in converting 22,800 points to 24,000 points by buying the common set while 54,150 points to 57,500 points by buying the rare set. By purchasing the skins in bulk you earn more points than holding the equivalent cost of DEC. This is partially the reason why Epic and Legend skins bulk set has been sold out. There is even greater difference in points to gain with those sets.
Furthermore the skins themselves are limited in quantities. 1,000 for commons, 500 for rares, 200 for epics, and 100 for legends. As of now all legends are sold out and majority of epics are too. You would have to pay full price for individual epics. Each epic skin is 9,500 DEC.
How To Use Skins
Under an alpha or beta card once you purchase the skin it will default have it set to the Splinterstorm skin. However if you wish to change it back to the original standard you can do so by clicking the drop down menu and select "Default".
An in game match where I use the Splinterstorm skins would look like the following:
Conclusions
If you are like me desperately trying to keep my excitement of Splinterlands buying spree to continue you should look at purchasing some skins.
Currently the only benefits of owning skins is each one will increase your air drop points to earning SPS. Where the rarity of the skin will effect how many additional air drop points you will have. The other benefit is you have options to change the appearance of your alpha/beta cards.
One significant drop back I have found with skins is that they are not transferable. Once purchase they stay with the account that purchased it even if the player does not own the alpha/beta card to use it on. However rumors have it that in the future the skins will be able to be exchanged between players and can be resold at owner's discretion.
For now I will be enjoying my common and rare alpha cards look. It kind of appears I have new cards in my set. A good feeling to see and have.
Until next time thanks for reading!!!

Thank you for this! I haven't really considered buying Skins prior to reading this.
By the way, when I try to buy it in bulk using this interface I am getting the 57k amount. Is there another step to get the discount for 54,150 price? Thanks!
