A great intro post about Gladius Cards from Cryptomancer here. The post will explain in detail how many Gladius cards exists and how players can earn them.

In this post I will talk about my experience of earning them and playing with them. Explain what I see are pros and cons of the cards series and tips on how you can start earning Gladius Cards.

Higher Ranked Guild = More Gladius Cards

There is no secret to it, only way to earn Gladius Cards is by winning merit tokens through winning brawl battles. On approximately every fifth day of Splinterlands a new brawl begins. Top guilds who have won the most earn enough crowns and invested enough DECs will be set in tiers where they have the potential to earn more with battle wins.

Snapshot above are the requirements to each arena level. Guild must have arena in order to participate in brawls. In addition guild must have shop level in order to collect merits at the end of brawls.

image.png

The bare minimum to start earning Gladius cards is to have guild with arena at level 1 and store at level 2. This totals to 40k DEC and 40 crowns to reach. The higher the arena level and shop level the more bonus earnings of crowns and merits for winning battles.

If you have not joined a guild you might want to start looking for one because that is the only way to earn Gladius cards.

Gladius Cards Overview

Now near three months into Gladius cards rewards I have earn a few Gladius packs. In order to purchase Gladius packs player needs 2000 merit points per pack.

image.png

Each pack contains five cards and there are a total of 32 cards in the Gladius series. Each pack has a minimum of 1 rare and 4 commons. There is potential of earning a gold foil version of the card. I personally have 2 epic, 8 rare and 15 common cards. Several common duplicates so no where near holding all 32 different cards.

Gladius cards are design to only stay with the account it has been earned from. Therefore they can not be sold or transferred once earned. They are able to be burned to earn DEC. There is future plans to potentially have Gladius cards be able to contribute with the use of land when land expansion begins but for now its just rumors.

My Experience With Gladius Cards

The Gladius cards not only are locked to the earned user they are also limited to be used only in brawls. In addition only one Gladius card can be used per a battle. You maybe wondering than why all these restrictions?

image.png

It may have a lot to do with the standard ability Blood Lust in all Gladius cards. The ability earns monsters +1 in all stats when it defeats an opponent monster. On top of that its speed is -1 in reverse speed rule set. Basically reverse speed rule set is a benefit for all Gladius cards as they each get -1.

The ability to gain +1 stat is a major advantage when a Gladius card stays in battle for a long time. I have found using cards to protect a Gladius card or extend the Gladius card makes a big difference after each passing turn.

A great life splinter Gladius card I often use when ever I can is Captain Katie. A card at level 1 already have magic attack of 3 is destined to devastate any enemy weak against magic attacks. The snipe ability allows it to take out foes that are in the middle or rear of the formation which sometimes can create disorder on an opponent's formation.

A clarifying item worth mentioning is that although the Gladius cards have same border color each one is specific to a splinter. The background color behind the name of the card is what delineates the card's splinter.

RedFire
BlueWater
GreenEarth
Light BrownLife
PurpleDeath

Conclusions

Having Gladius cards increases the odds of winning brawl battles. It also increases collection power of the player. Furthermore it brings a unique value to the accounts. Not all players have Gladius cards and everyone that does has their own collection.

The higher the guild the more rewards they likely will earn in brawls. That in turn will mean likely more Gladius cards. Like all other series of cards Gladius cards can be leveled up. The number of cards to move up in level per rarity type is identical to Untamed series.

The restrictions of not being able to sell or transfer the cards is a disappointment as appreciation of the cards is non existence. Only way to sell would be to literally sell the player's account. While in battles it is only limited to one per a battle.

As a whole Gladius cards introduces a new dimension of playing battles. Specifically brawl battles. If you are a hardcore Splinterlands player or one that feels the current series of cards is not enough take a look at Gladius.
